Okay Guys and Gals - I'm no longer an FJR Owner Wanabe. As of today I'm the proud owner of an 08 FJR1300A. This also gets me established with my local dealer, Lexington Motorsports. So now the transition from cruiser to sport-tourer begins - I'll be taking it slow and easy of couse. Thanks for all the words of wisdom and positive support in the New Member Forum section. Take Care....................................drummerboy :yahoo:

Congrats and damn straight - the FJR will bite you in the behind if you don't take it slow and easy.

At least for the first little while. :)

You're coming from a Honda Shadow... I don't know if you've heard or read this before, but you should probably read about the Master Yoga Riding Position. When I got my FJR, I fell into this posture, naturally, but I still had complaints (a set of handlebar risers cured my ills). I wasn't transitioning from a cruiser, but many who do have problems adjusting their 'seat' to be comfortable. The FJR is more comfortable to ride than any cruiser, for the majority of folks who spend a little time on one. For a few folks, sitting 'up' instead of 'back' never seems to work, and cruisers is the way for them to go.

In any event, you may find problems with your position, as you put miles on the bike (I hope you don't, but lots of folks do). The fixes are mostly simple, and posture is the primary one on the list. Risers is next. Seat mods or changes seem to come in 3rd (I found I didn't need one, myself).

Once you adapt to the bike and adjust to its performance, your brother on his BrokenMotorWorks will be trying to keep up with you. He'll be looking to get rid of that lemon, for an FJR.

Best of luck with your new bike.

I bought both my FJRs at Lexington Motorsports. The owner, Wes, is a good guy. Even though I'm not in the market for a bike right now, I couldn't help but look at your new bike sitting over in the front corner every time I went in there. Enjoy!

Great advice from JRO, only it's the Master Yoda (not yoga!) riding position. I can't find the original article, but here is one of them.

clicky

Your in a great place for riding. I organized an Eastern KY ride last year starting at Red River Gorge, Pine Mountain, and Breaks Intersate Park. I won't be making it this year due to injury, but I think some other folks are still going. Contact Jagermeister, or Luvtoride for details.

Oh and don't forget the frame sliders!!!! Seriously.... I think there are more FJR's with a scratched stator cover than without!

You might even get to ride tomorrow, 64 and sunny!!! Happy riding.

Welcome luvtoride!

I'm sure you've already started looking but make sure to do a search on the 08 for the few minor issues that are out there. Dry clutch plates might be the first one that you notice.

Good luck and enjoy the ride.

 uh, luvtoride has has an FJR longer than you :p

DB...Welcome from NE OH :cold: I too came from a cruiser last summer and have loved every mile on the FJR. I was concerned about the seating position so I bought the Helibars Triple Clamp even before I had the bike - Bad Move. After several hundred miles, I decided I like the stock position just fine. You may be different, but take you time and find what works best for you.

Ride on brother...

Yes, ride the bike for a while and see if you get used to the new riding position, seat, etc, before spending big money on things you may find out you really don't need.

I came from a Honda Shadow myself, and while I still enjoy the Shadow some days, the riding position on the FJR is SO much better and comfortable. So easy to adapt to.

Careful on the power as it's a "tiny" bit faster than the cruiser.

Enjoy the smile.

Congratulations and welcome from another Kentuckian. I also got my '08 from Wes at Lexington. Good people. You will enjoy the bike. Let's just hope most of winter is over and we can get out.
