My daughter is joining me for NAFO so we needed more space. This is prototype #1.

Also added this little unit too.

I've got a Givi52 but as you know teenage girls need more luggage space. So now I've got 80 liters of room!!

I like the box (or barrel). It sort of looks like you'll be carrying a 500lb bomb, although it matches well. I really like you're license plate holder. A neat little box to carry stuff in.

Hey, put some baffles in that thing, hook up a gas line, and you could ride that FJR for a month without refilling!

The little box was purchaced at a dive shop in the Florida Keys. I've seen others with it in thier pics.

I think you will need to consider what this will do to the bike aerodynamically. I'd be concerned it would lighten the front or otherwise upset the handling of the bike. And the way the straps are about midline on the tank, it would be easy to torque the drum a bit and rotate it in a way such that all hell would break loose and then you really have an issue on your hands.

Just me point oh two.

You should of seen the way I was packed on my Florida trip. It was like riding a sheet of plywood!! I picked up the barrel on the bike and it seemed to fit nicely. I didn't feel any wind shear on my short trip home.

Seriously. The comments above about possible aerodynamic changes for the worse are legitimate. I would definitely load everything up, get your daughter on the back, and take a little test ride. Also, looks like it could be pretty uncomfortable for your daughter with that thing back there.

What I highly recommend is going back to the Give E52 and using your friendly brown truck to ship a box of extra clothes and what not. Then have the hotel ship the box back to your home with all the dirty clothes or whatever before heading home.

That's what the g/f and I did for last year's WFO. Oh, and of course the obvious: PACK LESS STUFF!!!

Thanks gang... my first sentence says it all. "first prototype" . Yes a roadtest is in order. In the end it will most likley be the Givi we use but , hey it's fun to try new things.

That little misc. box is a really cool idea! Reminds me of this Rob Schneider skit on SNL:

Might I ask, where did you get the drum?

A neighbor on my road sells these. It was blue , I painted it grey. They are used to transport pharmaceutical ingredients. One of the uses up here is to fit them with shoulder straps for camping and hiking trips.

My first thought was BEER KEG too, guess it is a kind of Rorschach test result

First, if your extra trunk capacity does get used I think your front tire will stop wearing. In fact you may be a unicycle most of the time.

Second, ping Ignacio and discuss rear sub frames, gussets and welding repairs because you may well need to know how to fix broken sub frames.

(Google Uni-Go ;) )
