Two weeks ago, I went to get some stuff off a shelf in the garage, pushing my old Shoei helmet that was hanging there out of the way. My son happened to notice a bird fly out of the helmet. Sure enough there was a nest with 6 little egss in the helmet.

I went away on vacation, returning home on 7/8/06 to find the newly hatched babies

After trying many times, I finally got these pictures of the Mother Bird

The birds have been hatched for a week now and I expect them to leave the nest any day now. Then I will have to decide if I should clean out the helmet or just leave it as it is for the next family to move in. BTW, these are house wrens.

At least they wear headgear. Birds 'round here all have cute handkerchiefs on they heads.

That's pretty cool! I think I'd leave it there if I wasn't going to use it ever again. JB

I guess your helmet didn't smell to bad ;)

If you keep it there, one of those wrens, if not both of them, will keep coming back.

That freaking Radman always seems to come up with the funniest lines. I almost spit my beer all over the computer screen when I read his post. I might be able to make the CFO, so maybe I will get to meet him in person and spit beer directly on him (assuming he will be there).

As for the birds, I think it will take them more than a week to be able to fly and leave the nest. In the mean time, they will crap that helmet full, so you might as well leave it for them next year.

AT noon today the birds were all in the nest. Now it's 4:45PM and they have all taken off. Good-bye little birdies! :bye:
