Sunday Ride 527 miles

I took another long day ride on the scoot last Sunday. My ride started out leaving Bellingham at 6 AM and it totalled 527 miles when I pulled back in the garage Sunday night. It started out cold at 54 degrees, kinda cold, a little warmer, hot at 84 degrees, warm and ended cold again riding home full circle at 55 degrees Sunday night. I met up with a couple of friends down in Bothel and we continued down to Jim's stomping grounds (Maple Valley) and met up with him. We then proceeded to go around Mt Ranier and down the back side of 410 to Whistling Jacks for brunch. We continued down to Yakima and took the old hwy 97 up to Ellensburg. From there we rode the back roads to Blewitt Pass and over to Leavenworth to refuel. Then off we went up and over Steven's pass and went our seperate ways there in Monroe. I made a couple hour stop at the Tulalip Casino to visit with some family that was staying in the hotel Sunday night. Then back to Bellingham for a cold ride home. It was an awesome day of riding with great friends. It's nice to keep the group size small so you can get in and out of places quickly. Jim and I had a lot of fun putting the two sport tourers through the paces. We didn't see too many staters like I thought we would on a holiday weekend. Although while riding from Yakima to Ellensburg on that road we went by 5 or 6 of them in that short stretch of road. A great ride, enough excitement to keep it interesting and a great group of guys. My buddy Jim rides the new BMW 1600 sport touring bike. The other two guys were on cruisers. Sorry no pictures. We didn't stop that long and pictures wasn't on the list of things to do.

I'm sitting in the classroom at lunch, waiting for all my munchkins to return. Reading you story reminds me that some of you guys out there got it made. You're just a few short miles away from some amazing roads and scenery. As I leave today in the cage (gotta pick up supplies after school, couldn't bring the bike to haul all that stuff), I'm wishing once again that I lived near... anything but palm trees and beaches. Nice as they are for pictures and post cards, ya can't ride an FJR on the beach. I'm reminded of my trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway when I met a fella who used to live right here in this area. He moved to South Carolina, buying a home near the parkway, so he could do the twities during his retirement years. And twisting he did. As a matter of fact, after following behind him for 40 miles or so, I never knew a Gold Wing could corner like that!!!!!!.

Scott- Nice story/report. That kind of temp changes makes it more diverse and interesting I think. You had a bit of it all except the freezing cold which who does want that crap? (well OK, only when I can go sled'n in it!)

Gary- I'll trade ya... your palm trees and white sandy beaches for my snow covered maple trees and salt covered roads any-day.

I'll trade ya for the next 40 days, but that's it. After mid Oct., all bets are off. This place turns into heaven from late Oct through April. As a matter of fact, the lack of twisties around here makes it a little more logical to run a CT on back.

For 500 miles a day you have some great loops N. of you, as long as you have a passport.
