Had a set of BT-21's put on. I remembered a thread or two on lubing the drive shaft splines so I wandered back to the service area and mentioned it to the mechanic. "Already took care of that", he said with a grin. "As long as you have the rear off we always lube the splines."

Cochise Motorsports here in Sierra Vista is a first class operation. Everytime I've gone in with questions including the dreaded altitude surge they've treated me with respect and courtesy. Anyhow since I read about some of the "stealers" that people complain about it makes me feel great to have the dealer and mechanic on top of things. :clapping:

Dad told me to reprimand in private and compliment in public.

Most good mechanics will lube the splines at the rear wheel during a tire change, but the issue with the FJR has to do with the splines at the front end of the driveshaft. Are you sure that he removed the shaft and lubed the front where the real problem is ??

My bike has been at the dealership for 10 days now for replacement of a starter interlock relay under warranty :angry2: .......Suffice it to say it IS NOT Cochise Motorsports.

Glad to hear that someone has good experiences with their dealer.

Good point. Which splines? The drive and driven splines of the wheel? Or the driveshaft splines which require extra labor [albeit not much] to get to.

He lubed the forward splines as well. He was aware of the issue with lubing the splines. I didn't see him perform the service as I arrived "ex post facto" (that's Latin meaning "after the fact" for those of you in Kalifornia).

Okay, lets try that again, Thats where I bought my 05 FJR, great bunch of guys, whenever I'm in town, I'll stop by, buy some filters etc. Owner has a really nice collection of various bikes up on the balcony!

I'm really hoping they're competent enough to do the 26K valve adjustment, thats the only maintenance item I probably won't screw with. Nobody in Phoenix I would let touch my ride, let alone work on it.

A good lesson. One that I try to follow and the few times I have been driven to reprimand in public have not worked out that well.

Having a good maintenance department makes a huge difference in the ownership experience. I know I'm very happy with Roseville Yamaha in NorCal.
