I was just pricing out some new tires for my Pathfinder, and the guy at the tire place was talking about a new thing called Nitrofill.

It is suppose to add 25% to the life of the tire and never loses its tire pressure. It sounds good, they want $10 per tire to do it.

I was wondering if anyone here has used it. It maybe good for the FJR also!!

We haven't had a good nitrogen argument for a while, good thing you brought it up. Pass.

If you ever pick up a nail in your tire you won't have to worry about it rusting inside the tire from all that moisture in plain old compressed air.

I'm offering a special blend with of nitrogen that includes Krypton! -- works better than standard nitrogen.

The blend is proprietary, and I fill for only $5 /tire.

Some of the ingredients include:

Nitrogen, over 78%

Oxygen, over 20%

Argon, almost 1%, and Carbon Dioxide, about 0.033%

------ the special ingredients listed below are blended and added to the above. (proprietary amounts) I will not give out the percentages...

Neon, Helium, Krypton, Sulfur dioxide, Methane, Hydrogen, Nitros Oxide, Xenon, Ozone, Nitrogen dioxide, Iodine, Carbon monoxide, Ammonia

EDIT: of course -- that's just plain old air... but note: 'regular' air is almost 80% nitrogen to begin with.

I know that stuff! I have it mixed up special and compressed when I go SCUBA diving. Great stuff to breathe....especially less than 200 feet. The nitrogen gives you a killer buzz as it liquefies and goes into your blood stream. Sucks a bit if you stay down too long and come up too quick, but I'd imagine it works great for tires.

There's a local tire dealer who adverts that for all their new sales... I guess it ranks right up there with PCIII's in my book - nice and all, but do you really need it.

Fina's Pink Air was my favorite `till they closed up all their stations `round here...

I too market a special mix that includes a secret percentage of Hydrogen-Sulfide. Pull my finger for a sample.

:p

Seriously, there's no doubt that Nitrogen has it's benefits, but they are mostly when compared to poorly maintained tire inflation. If you rotate, balance and check air pressure on a regular basis like you should, then Nitrogen versus filtered air is no big deal. IMHO

Forget the Nitrofill. I'll sell you a mix of 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen and 1% Argon. I promise it produces

Absolutely Impressive Results when used properly!!!

 Did the guy look like PT Barnum? I think they might be related.

Do they have winter nitrofill and summer nitrofill and change the nitrofill each season for free??

There is absolutely no reason to fill tires with nitrogen. None. Just keep the tires properly inflated and drive. Charging $10 per tire for nitrogen is a total scam. Pure profit for the tire store and no advantage for you.

People worry about the amount of moisture in the air but there is really very little moisture that makes its way thru the compressor, tank and lines to the tire. VERY little. So little that it is of no concern. Most commercial operations have driers on the air lines anyway to protect their air tools so the air is perfectly dry. Since the atmosphere is 75% nitrogen anyway just compressing that and putting it in your tires gives you a 75% nitrofill for free.

You guys are awesome...Thanks for the feedback!!!

Its one of those things where your gut tells you this don't seem right, but without other information it makes it hard to know what to do.

Thanks :D

Soooooooooooooo, I'm thinking 100% nitrogen, one shinney steel nail in 100% nitrofill tire, one spark from nail striking road surface, wouldn't that equal 1/2 a tire change.
