When I quickly release the clutch... chuclunk chuclunk.... A harley owner with a belt drive pointed this out when he rode my bike ( he is my boss and friend so when he said give me the keys.... I did?) I said what clunk noise? So i went out and clunk.... when i release the throttle and when I pull it back again. I figured normal part of the shaft drive system up in the transmission area? If normal I'll shut up and continue to love my bike.

First you said:

When I quickly release the clutch... chuclunk chuclunk....
Then you backed it up with:
.... when i release the throttle and when I pull it back again.
So which is it? When engaging and disengaging the clutch?

If its when opening and closing the throttle in low gear, there's a lot of torque happening and its all focused on the shaft drive bevel gears. There is a certain amount of "free play" in the intermediate gears and in the final drive. I can't hear your "clunk" so it is nearly impossible to diagnose "second hand".

If it bugs you, have a dealer listen to it. And, oh yeah....stop doing that! It may be a little hard on the gearsets.

Yeah the only bikes I've owned are shaft and I don't normally do any of the clutch thingys I was talking about. I just wanted to hear what A Harley owning person heard. I thought it was normal and I have to make it do what I was talking about. I love the shaft drive and figured it was bevel gear noisy I just wanted to not be an *****. I didn't even notice it. I said "what noise" when he said that.

COOL! ride on.

You could tell him the sound is what real motorcycles make that don't have drive belts like a Hoover vacuum cleaner. :yahoo:

Yeah I could but, Like I said he is my boss and my Friend .... He is actually having a rough go of life. Only Son killed 10 years back in car wreck and now wife Has ALS ... taking care of her has left him with no time to ride anything.... He is having to sell his Harley..... So I let him take an occasional steam blow off ride on My whatever I rode to work that day.

Sometimes your life makes you wonder.

It's normal gear lash noise
+1

BTW, A Harley sounds and acts like a farm tractor when you up or downshift. Not knocking them literally (have owned them) but they sound different. Your boss/friend just does not realize the difference with belt and shaft drive maybe.

Continue riding and smiling.
