Hi to all,

Last few days I have experienced kind of noise from the clutch. Noise come from

Left side of the bike. I can heard this noise when bike is not moving.

On the road can’t heard anything. It does not affecting gear shifting.

Bike has 6000 miles. When I holding clutch lever and blip a throttle, noise went away.

Sounds like a valve ticking nose.

Any thoughts.

Thanks

Dragan

dragan, there have never been any reports of valve ticking from `06 on, highly unlikely this is what you are hearing. Also, the clutch is on the right hand sde of the engine...what you see on the left is the slave cylinder. I suspect, all you`re hearing are the usual sounds of reciprocating mass in the valve train...nothing unusual about that.

I have been checking few more times for that suspicion sound.

When I pull clutch lever, noise come from left side of the bike. It looks like that noise

is not from the slave cylinder or clutch it self. Sounds to me that noise come from

meddle gear case. When bike is cold, noise is present at all the time when clutch lever is pulled.

When bike is hot nose stays from few seconds and disappear.

Bike is still under warranty and I will contact me local dealer sometime next week.

Shuswaper, thanks for your info.

Will let you know what will be answer from me local dealer.

When your bike is cold, engine off, put it in gear, pull in the clutch and see if you can easily push it. If not, the noise you're hearing could be the clutch plates dragging. After you hold the clutch in for a minute or so with the engine running, the noise will stop when the plates stop dragging. Or as you said, blipping the throttle will break the plates lose and the noise will stop. My two cents

I think you right. It is a clutch. I am just little bit confused why noise is louder on the left side of the bike. Logicality

noise should come from the clutch side of the bike.

I have to make appointment with my local dealer regarding this issue.

Thanks

Dragan

Dragan,

I left my 07 at the dealer in Maryland today with similar problems. However my noise is coming from the right side and the issue is the clutch. With the bike in neutral and cold and on the center stand, upon starting the rear wheel turns and the clutch grunts and clunks. Same situation but on the ground, same noise but the bike does not move. I have read today on two different sites about similar problems. One solution was to 'break loose' the plates....Someone else on this thread mentioned this too. The bike runs fine when warmed up. Plus Im getting intermittant ABS warning lights....

Keep me posted on what you find and Ill do the same. I should hear tomorrow.

Dragan,

Ok. Here's is the disappointing update. The dealer says:

Can't replicate clunking

All wet clutches will spin the rear wheel on center stand in neutral just a bit

Will replace the ECU ( although I dont ride at altitude) and this should smooth out the throttle (which I did not mention in repair write up)

After talking more with the SM, get the impression that they hear it but they don't want to tear into the bike because Yamaha wont give them the ok to do so and therefore its not covered under warranty. But he did not say this directly. He read me the write up the other service manager did when I brought it in and it was clearly not as explicitn as my wrte up . After getting the issues on paper with the second SM, this is when I got what I feel is the run around on the diagnositc work.

Also, they told me that although the ABS light was coming on with the bike on the ground, their diagnostic equipment was showing no codes and no history of the light ever going on. Plus they said that when the bike is on the center stand, the ABS light will always come on. Ill check this out when I get the bike back.

Good news, is the at I got the ECU replaced and there is not charge for the shop work. Bad news, I still have my problem. Im going to video tape the issue and then bring it out to another dealer.

This will take a couple weeks. Update you then.

Sorry to heard that, Rick

Let see what kind of the answer I will get from my dealer once he got a chance to look my bike

Will keep you updated

Regarding the rear wheel spinning when the bike is in neutral on the centerstand, yes that is normal, especially when the bike is cold.

As for the clutch thunking, check that your idle speed is correct, especially making sure that it isn't too low. Also be aware that many times new FJR owners think they hear noises that turn out to be normal. That's part of getting to know the bike. If the noise you hear is abnormal, another FJR rider should be able to hear it, as well as the folks at the service department.

I can't help with the ABS light since my '05 didn't have it. Good luck.

My dealer check the clutch.

He thinks that noise come from bearing, (I think is a needle bearing) mounted on the

pressure plate. He is now in the process of ordering that bearing and gasket for the clutch cover.

Will keep you updated.

Dragan,

Good to hear. I have my bike back and cannot replicate any of the noises or anything else. Yes, the wheel spins on center stand when cold and in neutral but I think this is normal. I rode the bike yesterday for an hour all over in traffic on the highway, slow, fast.....it runs fine. And no ABS light...So if and when it happens a again, I will follow up. Give a final when your bike is done just for record.

Thanks for your time.

I would not be too concerned about the ABS light coming on when you have the bike on the center stand, and it's cold and the engine is at high idle. The rear wheel on my '05 , will spin under these conditions and occasionally cause the ABS light to come on. This is normal for the ABS light to come on with the rear wheel spinning while the bike is on the center stand.

My two cents. I hope this helps!

Maybe you already did this, but I'd check out another bike or two at a dealership before concluding you have a problem. Bikes are noisy, especially when cold and at idle. Another thing to keep in mind is if there's something wrong, it'll get progressively worse, erasing any doubts of a problem. If you still have some warranty left, and bike runs and sounds properly otherwise, I'd put some more miles and see what happens. Good luck.

Just picked up my bike from Yamaha dealer. Dealer told me that clutch bearing has been replaced.

I was convinced that there is issue with clutch plates but with conversation with dealer find out that

was only bearing. Plates are in excellent condition and they don't stick at all.

This cost me nothing, all is covered by warranty

The best of all is that there is no noise anymore. Clutch is now running very smooth and noiseless.

Thanks to all for your inputs.

I have a 2003 that I just purchased recently and a couple of days ago I noticed a clunking noise at idle with the clutch disengaged...I have been checking it out this morning and on the center stand when I place it in first, it rattles like there are some bolts bouncing around in the tranny (at idle). This is my first shaft drive, does this seem normal? It also does it when it is in neutral...so I was thinking it could be the clutch bearing. IDK, was looking for some other opinions. When I get on it and ride up and down the street at idle, no noise.

Does this sound like the same thing???

Thanks guys,

G

I just saw this....Thanks. All feedback is helpful. At minimum it shows folks tryin to help. The Yammie Tech confirms the spinning as normal.

I had no clunking noise from clutch it was more like a ticking noise.

When bike was cold noise was terrible, once bike warm up noise is not that loud.

When I bleep throttle noise went away for a while.
