For Saturday, I'm going to ride one of my "backyard rides". From Orangevale, I often head up to the hills and ride what I call North of 80 fun. This can include many, many roads and small towns, but I really think for those visiting Northern California that the beautiful scenery, incredible riding roads, and the history of the region is worth checking out.

If anyone would like to join me, I really want to make this a ride that will finish early afternoon so I'll be heading out at around 6:45 am, or 7am. That said, I want people there early for pre-flight discussions:

Safety - pass safely, don't follow a bike blindly into a pass, make your own pass, and remember, this is NOT a race

I will not be passing on double yellow and I won't be speeding as some may know I do once in awhile. If you want that kind of ride, catch me in a different space and time. WFO is pure safety conscious land for me, I don't want to be the guy that worries people, or hurts people that come out for this great event.

I'll be riding the PACE. If you don't know what that is, I'll post a link.

Understand that this ride is on a Saturday, and 49 will have a LOT of bikes and cagers on it. Yep, it's a lot more fun to take this road on a Tuesday, and maybe I will ;)

If there is interest, I'll add more detail and will set mileage so that we can get back to Reno early afternoon. This means eat breakfast before the ride, we'll have one lunch break, and a few short breaks for pics/drinks, but I'll be mostly about riding.

If you want to do the tourist thing, the place to do it in the Sierra is Nevada City. It has nice shops and places to eat, and historically, this is perhaps the most signficant mining centers of the gold rush (no matter what Sutter thinks). I will make Nevada City the mid-point of the ride so those that want to drop out and hang around can do so. We'll have lunch there.

List so far:

Count me in bro. I've been wanting to ride this area for a while. I think the Radman was interested from the previous posts about this area also. How bout it Rad? Now, about this Pace plan... Thanks, PM. <>< :D

Hey all, where are the riders for this ride? This promises to be a hoot and some unbelievable scenery and areas for anyone who goes, especially those who are from out of the area. This is not a long gruling all-day ride so come on and man-up, or woman up whatever the case may be. OrangeVale who knows this area well has kindly offered his great expertize to lead this run so let's give him some support. This could be a once in a lifetime offer! WFO WoHoo! PM. <>< :yahoo: :yahoo:

For those of you wondering what this ride is like, here are some ride reports with lots of pics:

looky here

One of our group ride reports that took this route seems to be missing. If any Mods see this, it should have the terms "Washington" 49, 20, 89, Sieraville, Downieville in the text (if you can do some searching)

If the early departure is too early after the mad bash on Friday, I could leave later...I won't be a stick in the mud on this. Just remember, earlier means cooler weather!
