After riding the same road for years (and loving every minute of it). It is Hwy 121 from Napa to the intersection of Hwy 128 near Lake Berryessa. I wondered how the stats on this road compare with the Dragon in North Carolina. The Dragon boasts of 318 turns in 11 miles. Today I measured and counted. My road of choice is also 11 miles if you just measure the part that is out of Napa. I counted 160 turns so I guess that they have me beat back there. I do love this road and today was a stellar day to ride it. You'all come and join me sometime.

Rode that route on a rented BMW GS back in 2001, two-up. Pretty neat road, but the road I remember even more fondly was the Oakville Grade Road from Hwy 29 near Yountville over the ridge toward Glen Ellen. Mostly second gear as I recall. Very 'Dragon-esque'.

I've ridden the Dragon & NC/N. GA; I'm headed to San Diego in about 3 weeks, so maybe I'll be able to offer a first hand comparison if I can link up with someone willing to act as tour guide will I'm on the west coast...

Dude, when are you going to SD? I will be headed there Nov 2-7 or there abouts. was looking for a bike out there for a day but all i can find is a BMW (and lots of hogs) and no one to ride (I guess all the SD folks are afraid to ride with the hard core twisty lovers).

PS see here

No, but I will!

Hey now, that road is fun when the traffic is light (does that ever happen?) but you need to ride with me up here in the Sierras for the good roads. A bear ran across the road up in front of us today near Allegheny. Even better in spring and fall are the roads in Northeastern Or. out around Fossil over to John Day.

The traffic does get light. During the week is great. Let's face it, California sucks in so many ways but motorcycling here is not one of them.
