I traded another bike I had for a new 07 A model today. It joins my 05 A model in the garage. It'll be interesting to compare the two over the next few weeks. :)

My initial thoughts about the 07 are that it has a better ride and a better seat, but I can't understand why Yamaha would put such a ridiculously stiff throttle on it.

I like the way the bags are more tucked in and I also like the big gauges. I prefer the 05's large turn signal indicators, though.

After getting home I took the 05 for a quick jaunt - it feels buzzy and twitchy compared to the 07.

These are just initial thoughts - I don't have nearly enough seat time on the 07 to really draw any conclusions yet.

Dear Goodness. Is the '07 new? The way you posted it, it sounds like it could be a trade-IN on a new bike, or just a flat out trade with someone who didn't want/like the '07. Details, man! Details!! And what did you get rid of?

I woud really like to read your comparison. I'm wavering between an 05 abs with farkles and an 07 with a warranty.

My dilemma is that my good friend, worldbound4now, tells me to get a used 05 with farkles because it will save money. I know it will initially, but he's changed out his rear shock and front suspension for a better ride. I guess I'm considering these points

05

no warranty (unless previous owner bought a YES plan)

some included farkles -

heat issues (unless modded)

07

rider reviews like the improved windscreen, suspension/over-all ride

new warranty, with YES option

I know there's a vast difference in $$ between used and new - but I'd probably spend for farkles either way.

Can't wait for your write-up!

Thanks!

I'd be interested to hear if you think the 05 handles quicker. I've ridden an 07 and I felt my 05 handled quicker and accelerated quicker-although I have a Techlusion, so it certainly could make a difference. I also have a Wilbers suspension, so again, would make a difference. I did get the impression the 07 was noticeably steadier.

Next you'll be on here complaning you have two girlfriends. Life's tough and then you die.

Seriously though, I would say the newer bike has serious upgrades you can't add on. 1. Longer gearing 2. Heat dissapation 3. Longer swingarm 4. MPG displays for average and continuous - this alone will save you lots of $$ just learning from it. 5. Higher alternator output to run all those farkles

PS the throttle fix takes 30 min and is perfect. PM me for the instructions if you go that way.

I've owned seven bikes. Up to today the most recent two were my 05 and an H-D Road King. I've been reluctantly seeing the need to whittle back down to only one bike.

I liked the Road King, but the FJR was always such a superior bike, SO... I traded the Road King for a new FJR with extended warranty and accessory heated hand grips. My intention is to have the dealership sell the 05 on consignment for me after I've had the chance to give the two bikes a good comparo, although I might change my mind - the 05's paid for and doesn't hardly cost me anything to operate and maintain. Besides that, I really like the blue color.

I hope this doesn't become a Harley bashing thread. I've owned three. They have a certain appeal and I've liked them all, but was just unable to overcome the old design. I was beat to peices at the end of a ride by the dirty air coming around the windshield of the Road King. I tried a multitude of fixes, but was never able to defeat it.

I figured if I was going to have just one bike, it would be an FJR and it might as well be new considering the upgrades Yamaha has made to it since I bought the 05.

OBTW, owning two bikes is an extravagance. Having two girlfriends is trouble.
