I've probably been as vocal as anyone about this new feature, being on the + side. I'm all for new technology. But something's come up that bothers the hell out of me. I wouldn't have notice it had it not been for Highlander's pics from the West Coast Intro. I've linked his pic and the Yamaha website pic so you call can see what I'm talking about (below).

BTW, my concern shows up the best in Highlander's pic, and after seeing it there, you can spot it on the website pic:

Take a close look at the 4 mounting bolts of the servo/sensor. Only the top two are visible in the West Coast Intro picture. When it comes to fine adjustments, is there anything worse than slotted bolt holes? Okay, loosen the 4 bolts, twist the mechanism "until it feels right" and snug everything back down.

Maybe this isn't a critical adjustment, but damn, couldn't Yamaha have come up with a better solution...ANY solution...to adjusting the newest feature on their flagship motorcycle?

here's a suggestion, all of you , quit your bitching about something you don't have and won't have for at least 6 months, and go out and ride what you do have, before it gets too cold and wet to do so.

Is there anyway we can get all the WHINNING 06 threads put in one place and stop people starting new ones about the same old whiny crap?

They sort of look like the adjustment slots on a TPS. There must be a need to adjust the switch/solenoid mechanism. No biggie.

Amen Skippy!! :D

To Much bich'ein and whinn'in on this board

some people have WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to much time on there hands

I was told that this bike was a "Pre-production bike", and that some bits will be different on the production bikes. The thumb shifter configuration was one of those items. May what you see is another.

Dammit! Why does the freakin' sun come up every gawd-damned day! Arrrrrgh! It's drivin' me crazy! And another thing that really sucks is having to put gas in the bike every frickin' 225 miles! Doesn't that just frost your ***?!

Boy, MY *** would surely be chapped if all I was gettin' was 225 miles to a tankful.

That would severly piss me off. :haha:

But seriously...(yeah, like THAT could happen here)...are you really only getting 225 mpt (miles per tankful)? I've only had my FJR 20 days but have put almost 3,500 miles on it (obsessive compulsive disorder is an ugly thing) and have nailed 300mpt with each fill-up. 50mpg every time.

Am I just lucky? Or is 50mpg fairly normal?

I got 50 mpg for the first couple of tanks but worked it down to about 43 after initail break-in. Also, I don't let it get to the bottom of the tank before filling. I normally go about 200 miles between gas stops. Not sure how importamnt it is, but the electric fuel pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank and there is no cooling if there is nothing left in there.

I get between 200 and 225 per 'tankful' which usually takes from 4.5 gallons to 5.5 gallons depending on what elevation I've been riding at. Overall, that would average out to a little better that 42 mpg.

Bascially, I live at 7 feet above sea level and most of my riding is below 1,000'. When I get above that, my mileage goes up to 50 or better. That's prolly consistant with most owners...

Edit to add that I just clicked over to 17,000 miles yesterday on my '05 (delivered late August of '04).

That's exactly what I'm getting as well. I've owned the bike just over 2 months and I have 2200 on it now.

50 MPG? You do know why the right grip rotates right?

Ditto on the 40-42 MPG. Unless cruising through Nevada, then its about 27 MPG.

wow!, I've never gotten that many miles out of my '05.

I've even noticed that at 100-110 mph the drain under the gas tank opens up and I can actually see the fuel gauge erase the ever smaller bars.

I'm going to try riding under 90mph from now on for a long ride (Aaarrgghh! that's going to be hard) and see what kind of mileage I get.
