Now what do I do?

My bike 08 is finally in for pickup tomorrow! ( 13,700 OTD ) Now comes the hard part, what to tell the wife. I have read a couple of topics on this matter. So I am taking my own advice and that is, do it and then ask for forgiveness! It's not that she doesn't want me to have a bike. It is the fact that I have a Harley too. I have tried to sell it on cycle trader without much luck. Between me you and the lamp post, I really don't want to get rid of it, I have a lot of money in the engine and chrome department. Hey who says you can't have two bikes????

I get to break it in this weekend on a trip to Hot Springs, AR. I can't wait to hit the mountains and the twisties.

I will give you an update on both.

Good luck with the wife. If I were in her situation I'd probably be pretty pissed. Not so much that you bought the bike, but that you didn't tell her you were going to do it and surprised her with it. Surprises like this usually don't go over too well at first.

Lie your ass off! Just tell her you bought it because of her! It's much more comfortable and now you can spend more quality time with you and her enjoying each other! If that don't work, beg for forgiveness!

The FJR is more politically correct, creates less noise & ambient air heating (H2O cooled) pollution, gets better fuel mileage, has better protection from the elements, has more pistons,valves,spark plugs etc., more power to get you out of sticky situations, much better brakes (ABS, safe/safe safe!!) is very comfortable for the riders, less vibration and is a totally different experience that she will enjoy (actually ..... give it to her to ride, you can continue to ride your HD and keep an eye on her from behind!

Keep the HD (they are cool) with all that investment in precious metals (chrome) it's bound to be worth more than it's worth......someday! (especially if you keep the miles off!) <_<

Oh, I really hate you right now. in a good way. I rode to Hot Springs for two years riding 7 and 9. You will be having a blast there. Have fun and take lots of pictures.

My wife was totally opposed to my buying my FJR, which I put down a deposit on April 30, 2004 without telling her, and took delivery November 19, 2004. She would never have consented, so I just did it. Nobody is keeping me off a bike. If your relationship is strong enough, she'll understand your need, and get over it. Now, she still doesn't approve, but understands that it's my therapist. Get her on the back, and go somewhere romantic. Let us know how it turns out.

she will then know how brilliant you are and why she married you in the first place. she will fall for the FJR just like you did. then get a custom seat for her tushy (ok, yours too) and a trunk so she can be an even happier passenger! she will want to ride with you everywhere!!

Bottom line. You never know when your time is up. If there is something you REALLY want to do, just do it.

I laughed so hard when I read that... nice one. You just made my day (it's been a slow day).

Well, being unmarried and having a love for watching things that aren't mine blow up, my advice should be taken with a grain of salt... but I think parking the two of them side by side and letting her discover your new toy in the garage/driveway is a good way to tell her subtly that you bought a new bike (you know, subtle like a sledgehammer). As for the forgiveness part... these things will pass. They pass faster if you do nice things for her. Like make dinner for her. And stock the freezer with ice cream. And give her puppy dog eyes.

Always remember though... Wherever you go she must follow. Whatever she cooks you must swallow. Best of luck; keep us updated

Ok here is the update. Overall my wife has forgiving me to some degree. She was more pissed at me for not asking or telling her I was going to purchase a new bike. With that said, it is in my garage behind the Harley.

I picked the bike up this past Friday after a long day at the dealer. It was suppose to be ready early morning but when I got there it was still in the crate at their storage facility. Long story short, they delivered it to my house around 6PM! Does anyone know customer service anymore? With that said, they did a nice job of putting it together, no scratches or dings.

Early Saturday morning my friend and I rode up the Yamaha dealer in OK so that he could his 600 mile service, Yes he has a FJR too. I did the break in during the ride up and then had my oil changed while he was getting his serviced. You are going to love this! His bike was outside the service department as they were finishing mine when I heard this loud yell. I ran out of the service department to see my friend standing their thinking he was hit by a pickup truck when I saw his bike down on the ground!! This service idiot would not stop even after the yelling and backed into his FJR. It destroyed both of his bags, mirrors, one tale pipe, stader cover, and locks that hold the bags. As you can imagine my friend came unglued! I was shocked and could not believe it. Here we are thinking that the dealer will have to order the parts that would take a few weeks and then have to ride another 200 miles to have the parts replaced. Before this happen we were talking to the owner and he was telling us how he has been the #1 dealer in the SW for many years due to customer service. So he ran to the owner and told him what happen. I think everyone ran out to see this one! He says, "I just got a new FJR in this week, we will replace the damage parts from that bike". So three hours later we were on our way. Nice customer service!!!! Well it was pretty good timing on our part when he was bragging on his customer service.

We then took the bikes for a trip to Hot Spring, AR I am blown away at how well it handles, especially in the curves!

There is no comparison to the Harley. In fact the Harley has made me a better rider in the curves and sweepers. I use to have to fight them and now it is effortless! A couple of times I over compensated but learned quickly to let the bike to the work. We did 1k miles. (my other friend has a 08 Connie) So here we are three of with kick ass sport bikes tearing up the roads.

Now with the exception of a sore ASS and shoulders I love the bike! It is a blast to ride especially when you have to pass a few cars. I order those spongy grips and was thinking of ordering some risers too. However I want to get use to the bike a little bit more and see if my butt gets use to it. I also moved the bars back as far as they can go to see if that helps with my shoulders.

I think I am going to sell the Harley. That should make the wife happier! Thanks for all your replies too....
