So tonight is my wife's birthday. I take her and my daughter out to her favorite place to eat (Grillsmith). We get back home, and I give her the remote for the tv, so she can watch all of the silly programs that she loves to watch, that I make fun of. So I go out to the garage to clean the bike from the weekend riding, and to leave her to her shows. After a half hour, she walks into the garage, walks around the bike, and with a big smile on her face says " maybe you can take me for a ride this weekend.".

This floored me! I've had the bike for a year this month, and she has shown no interest at all in it. When I told her I wanted to get a bike last year, after 20 years of no bike, she said " No, no, no, no, no!!". She has since eased her position, but is always scared of me riding it.

I told her " we don't have another helmet Baby". " Well, get one!" she said. Holy sh#%!! So it looks like I'll be shopping for gear this Christmas.

I did not see this coming. :)

No drinks, that's what floored me. If she had been (she doesn't drink), then I wouldn't have taken her seriously.

This is good news. It would be great news if she had shown up in the garage naked!!

Oh...And tell your wife we say happy birthday!!

It is very important that you review every step you took leading up to this victory... there is a root cause here... if you can figure it out, and then document it.. you may help others.
Other than making her feel special on her birthday, I haven't a clue. I'll have to ask her one day, but not now, as I don't want to ruin the mojo that I have going right now. ;)
Just ordered a helmet.

Hey bud.

Congratulations. This is really good news. I'm assuming she's never been riding with you before, and that she's going to be a little nervous. I know you've got the good sense to drive like gramma on that first ride. Let's hope that not one thing goes wrong that first time. I don't know a thing about your situation, but for WIW, new riders can change their minds about motorcycles in a hurry. Guess how I know that?

Hope everything goes real smooth. Let us know how that first ride goes?

Gary

LKLD, Don't look a gift horse in the mouth! If she wants to ride, take her for a ride!!. Make it memorable. Pick some really nice roads. I know that's hard to do in Florida but, there's gotta be some in your neck of the works. Ride to some tiki hut kinda of place with a killer menu. I know Lakeland is waaaay inland but, find a lake somewhere. Trust Me on this one!! :)

Yeah Gary, I'll be riding like a 90 yr. old a after smokin' a joint. I'll keep in in "T" mode, so as not to scare her, but if she says " c'mon baby, show me what it's got!", then "s" mode will kick in and she'll hold on for dear life!

You are so right on this! I plan on taking her to the coast, to a place that has a live reggae band and good food, with a nice view of the gulf.

I kinda liked zillas vision... Naked, garage and bike and wife presents you with a present on her birthday. Now that is an ultimate memory!

Happy Birthday wifey!

Yep! That sounds like the right place. I spent 15 years going to Jamaica once a week. Reggae music in the air will make anyone go to their happy place. Enjoy! :)

Day 1 with msDcarver on first Death Valley ride

.."Slow DOWN. Too FAST!" (61 mph)

Day 2 -

".."Slow DOWN. Too FAST!" (75 mph, slowly creeping up, gradual acceleration)

Day 3 - after an idiot in a Mustang pulls out in front (plenty of room, but not by msDcarver viewpoint)

"Pass that ******!~"

Me - "Ok, I'm going to count from 3 to 1, then downshift twice. Hang on. Yell if you're not comfortable"

msDcarver - "Wow, 128 mph is really smooth! Now slow the **** down!"

I hope you and yours have similar smiles!

LKLD, Six years ago my wife said I don't want to ride with you any more. I was crestfallen ; I knew if she no longer rode pillion then my riding would suffer as well. She said, "No you don't understand, I want my own bike ." Those are some of the best words I've ever heard and certainly the most expensive. Now three new Beemers and 100,000+ miles later she loves to ride as much as I do. We retired early and restructured our lives around motorcycle travel. This Christmas she'll be getting a new bike and we are heading to Key West.

Sharing riding with your wife can be a great thing. Consider yourself lucky.
