Out of curiosity and some boredom, I went to check out the Napa A/P OCC drag chopper, supposedly the quickest chopper they've ever built, when it visited our local Napa store Wednesday:

I'd never seen an OCC bike in person, so at least now I can say I have. I asked them how quick it was. The guy told me they made one pass before retiring it, and it went 9.97 @ 107 mph. Oooh, BFD. They were probably afraid it was going to scatter itself if they tried again. I don't imagine it was very cheap either. At least they were giving away popcorn & sodas.

Another over priced pos from occ :puke: Toecutter I can relate to your enthusiastic response to that slow, ugly, ill handling crap heap

:jester:

Is it possible to run a 9.97 with only 107mph?? Shouldn't that be around 145 or better?

That's just what the guy said. It could be wrong, but still, 9.97 for what? Probably 60 grand? Box-stock 'Busa will run that all day, and there's even a factory Harley that'll do it for about half the price, both at only 1300 cc's.

It was probably enroute to a mid 8 pass, when it **** itself and coasted through the traps at 107. They probably retired it for a reason. They wouldn't start it up for the crowd where I went.

They forgot to mention that it made it up to 150, before the rear locked up from an improperly installed wheel bearing, grinding the bike down to 107 before it crossed the line! :D :D  :D

That's why it only made one pass before being retired.... ;) ;) ;)

C'mon you guys. This machine is all about image, that's why retailers pay the "really big bucks", and image is what OCC is all about. Good for them for being "shown the money" and grabbing it.

They ran it one time to prove that it would run. That's probably all their contract required. In another lifetime, I worked in a race shop. The owner bought the "give away" funny car from Super Shop Auto Stores (remember them?). It wasn't the car they campaigned, but one that was built by a race shop and trailered from store-to-store then given away to a customer. They started it and did 1 burn-out and made 1 pass (@ around 7.50 seconds, IIRC) just to prove it was for real.

No different than this bike...its a showpiece, made to draw a crowd and make the uninitiated go "Ooooh!" and Aaaaah!", and it works.

For a multi-ten-thousand dollar machine, I notice little things, like the wire ties (zip ties) holding the control cables--how tacky and I'm guessing not legal by any sanctioning body's rulebook. I'm sure there should be stand-off brackets and the cable should be "shielded" from engine/clutch shrapnel by the frame  . But I digress....

Of course, a superstock Hayabusa, Blackbird or Dale Walkers Bandit :D is more to my liking, but that's only my opinion.

There's a guy here in Hawaii that has an orange OCC bike..

hardtail, nothing spectatular... one of their "customer" bikes....

The only thing that stands out is the "OCC" painted on the back fender...

There's tons of choppers here that are way cooler...Hawaii has some very good builers.

He traded his Vette for it (and got some $$$ back) ... said that you can ride it for about a hour, then you spend the next three days lying in bed with a backache..

but he doesnt' care... all he rides it for are toy runs and stuff...

He parks it in Waikiki and lets the Japanese and whoever tourists sit on it and take pics...

Says it's just another piece of furniture... If he wants to go fast he'll take his new Vette!

He enjoys the attention from all the tourists...He's a VRUB...very rich urban biker! <G>

I got to see Indian Larry's Rat Fink bike... that is beautiful... very clean and utilitarian.

It doesnt' pretend to be anything except Indian Larry's bike.
