Thinking of installing Yamaha heated grips but am wondering if they,re compatable with my Throttlemeister cruise control? any opinions/suggestions? thanks JIM

Yes, they are compatible.

I believe you can find several dated posts searching : +Throttlemeister +heated +Yamaha

Heated grips are nice to have when riding year round or in the cold/wet. Heat output is relative to each individual and or set up (e.g. gloves chosen). I can get by with just the heated grips and thin gloves to mid 40's. Below this I go to a thicker glove, and then just switch over to the heated gloves. I have the VStrom hand guards which also helps.

Yamaha is proud of their grips and the little added features when it comes time to pay for them. Several members are extremely happy with other heated alternatives (e.g Honda heated grips) for much less $$$ which are still compatible with the Throttlemeister.

Canadian FJR versions come with factory heated grips and they work superbly. I also have a throttlemeister installed and would rate it as ok. Perhaps the 2010 FJR will have a real cruise control.

I have the (too expensive) Yamaha grip heaters and a Throttlemeister. Both work well, and they do not interfere with one another at all.

+ 1 with this set up, works great !

Do not use the glue that comes it it, had to replace it after 2 or 3 times that I used the heat on the grips.

I glued them with Epoxy, after 2 years, still ok.

I think I will have fun if ever I have to remove them :) :)

FWIW, I used to use a Throttlemiester but now use the Vista Cruise lock. The Throttlemiester does have a higher bling factor for sure, but I find the VistaCruise easier to use and it does work with my heated grips. But I have the Dual Star heat elements (about $40) under GrandTouring grips. I think the Yamaha grips are too hard- the GT grips are fat in the middle and taper toward each end. They are also softer.

I also have the V-Strom guards. I've been riding to work the last couple weeks with morning temps in the high 20's and no cold fingers with medium weight gloves on.

Dual Star install is easy- cut off old grips with a razor, heating elements have adhesive on one side. Slide new grips over them. I didn't use any glue, just installed with air hose technique.

Grips have two heat settings and come with a three position switch. I think I bought the whole setup at murphskits.com

you do need to do some wiring. take your time and you'll be fine. Lots of good info here:

I followed these instructions fairly closely and haven't any touble for 4 years or so now.

See www.fjrtech.com for great throttle lock installation instructions.

Jim,

I put little alcohol lamps on each end of my handlebars. They keep my hands warm and provide extra light at night.

You just need get a left handed screw driver to install the lamps correctly. :D
