Ok so I admit I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the bike, but I bet I'm in good company. I'm just buttoning up the Ohlins shock install on my 2008AE and have a question for those that have done same. What did you do with the (3) studs that held in place the hard/soft dampening device on the left side of the bike. I was thinking about cutting them off, but then if I ever sold the bike, the new owner would have to buy a new plate if he wanted to go back to stock; was also thinking about putting the device, sans cables back in place to make it look like stock or of course the option is to just leave well enough alone and let them hang.

So I would be curious to hear what others have done.

Thanks, Gene

I thought the same then decided to leave them hang. You really don't notice them much.

I put a rubber grommet over them. I wouldn't cut them off. You'll forget about them.

Same here. I have left the mounting studs for the adjuster. The studs are not noticeable and make it possible to remount the stock shock which I still have.

Leave em. You'll soon forget they are there. And there is a very good chance you will have use for them again someday.

For sure leave them, put the original nuts back on, they're the sticky ones and just tighten them up enough to cover the sharp ends of those studs. Then when you re-install your original shock they'll be easy to find :p

I cut 3 pcs black fuel line a little short, then snugged the nuts back on and called it a day. I did not like bare stud showing. I had the fuel line so 0 cost.

I cut the suckers off. never going to sell it anyway. Will drive it into the ground. You guys worry way to much. You need some ZEN training, just go with the flow. What are you going to do put the stock one back on and sell the used special one. Grow up, grow some balls. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Actually I put my my stocker on the day before I sold my bike and will install my Wilbers on my current FJR. :yahoo:

But this thread is starting to sound far too much like some sort of sick castration consideration discussion...

I just stuck some spare rubber vacuum caps on them and forgot that they're there. I think that they were the same size as the ones that I stuck on the throttle bodies because they were longer and easier to grab onto than the OEM ones that came on the bike.

When I installed my YA-707, I left the OEM studs in place with the idea that if/when I send the Ohlins in for service, I could put the OE spring / shock back on so the bike would not be deadlined.

That's what I did.... :glare:

Thanks for all the ideas, leaving them alone seems to be the smart way to go. As for "Bustanut", I'm thinking 14 months of little sleep is the least of your issues.
