I use to be anal retentive about oil. I have been riding bikes for 35 years. I use to use Golden spectro semi-synthetic. in my old Yamaha xs-11. It seemed to work great. When I got the FJR I used the standard Yamalube for about the first 2K. Then after reading a lot of oil threads and oil articles, I decided on using Shell Rotella 5x40 Synthetic. It is a great base oil. The 5 wt. part worried me, but it is only 5 weight when cold. Thats what you want.....good flow right away. I change it every 2K. Its $13 for a gallon at WalMart. I also have used 15x50 Mobil 1. Its also a great oil. I still have it in my Suzuki Bandit 1200.

I'm sure the Yamaha semi synthetic is good. $8 is a lot, but if you dont mind the cost, stick with it. Being an oil maniac is a very stressful thing. I know from years of experience.

My guess, the only bad experience you'll have using that oil has already happened- paying $31.96 a gallon for it ! And you'd have to extend your current 10,000 mile oil change interval to 12,500 to break even vs. using the $13 a gallon Rotella Synthetic and changing it twice. ;)
