Friends, with the higher temps that these bikes run @(don't want to get into the

heat issues) would an oil cooler be good/do-able on these bikes? Has it been done?

Are there companies out there that offer a kit that I've missed ? Thanks,Sliick2

Without actually looking, I'm pretty sure that there's already an integrated oil cooler on the engine that passes coolant and oil though a heat exchanger. Its that thing that looks like a can between the exhaust and the engine.

Cheers,

Jim

These bikes run at between the thermostat controlled temp and the fan-on temp setting. I think? if one were to add-on an aftermarket oil cooler it would just cause the thermostat to stay shut longer in order to get the engine up to operating temperature. Maybe you could get the oil temp lowered some with an add-on cooler (altho, the heat exchanger will be trying to warm the oil) -- but, I don't know if that'd be beneficial, or not? :erm:

Higher temperatures? What temperature is high? Higher than what?

I'll suggest that an oil cooler farkle is WAY down at the bottom of most people's farkle radar.

I'll also suggest that any heat issue with the bike is about perception of heat on the body -not about disappating heat from the engine. Two totally different issues.

Think about it. Have we heard problems with burned pistons, seizures, cooked oil, or those sorts of things?

The FJR carries more than four quarts of oil so I'm not worried about the oil cooking under normal use.

Are they chestnuts?  Its getting to be that season, you know. :D
I suppose if ya got banged on one of those air bag Wingabagos they might be up that high....... :D

Yes there is an oil cooler. It is in the front, below and aft of the rad.

It is about the forward most item on the lower end of the engine. It has 4 bolts.

I would have no concerns at all about oil temp on an FJR. First, it is liquid cooled and it does have an oil cooler in the coolant circuit. The FJR does not run "hot" at all from what I have seen. Just the hot air off the engine bastes the rider under some conditions.

Speaking of basting, !!!!!
