Oil filter question not about brand or quality

I have a filter left over from my 03' 600R and it's the same base as the FJR's yet about 3/4 of an inch shorter, Would it be ok to throw on for my next change? Have the FJR's always used the longer filter,...something in the back of my poor twisted brain remembers my dealer saying that they changed to the longer body in just the last couple of years?

IMHO, I'd use it and change it with the next oil change (I change filters with every oil change though Yamaha recommends every-other-oil change).
