Oil viscosity recommendations

Any advice or lessons learned on using other than recommended weight oil? The holy Yamaha manual states 20-40w. Any issues running 20w-50w? Any problems with starting harder in cold weather, less fuel mileage, I don't know, any reason not to use 20-50w or even 15-50w? Any reason to only use the 20-40w?

Eye of newt, mixed with some fairy dust is what radman recommends, but me? I just use 20/50 dino and call it a day. Just change it as recommended by MOM.
