I bought one of the jackets 2-3 months ago. Great buy for the $$$. The only issue I had was with the zipper-it zipped up with left hand. Admittedly this shouldn't have been a problem and maybe for someone with a thimble of hand eye coordination it wouldn't have been. However, I am obviously a clutz and was having alot of trouble getting the darn thing zipped up(this web site gets some of the lamest complaints). To make a short story long I had a new zipper-right handed of course-put on. But it is a great light weight jacket with nice embroidering.

I'll find it next time I'm home and can look at my map of the BRP (at my fiancees house now)

Does 1000 sound like a good time? I'll just come straight down the BRP and meet up with ya all.

Don't know if I can keep up with a FJR that is burning up with flames on it though :D

24,BRP is Vinton ,, there is a turnaround there ,, easy to find ,,

1000 is good for me ,, that should give us plenty of time to get there ,, I'll pm Sheilds

Sounds good, I'll keep my eyes peeled for ICE  on the way south

Does 1000 give us enough time to get to Cracker Barrel by 1200?--We could meet earlier if we needed to :agent:

Toophast,,

my bad did not know what I was thinking !!!

will catch up with you at the meeting spot !!

Heidi,You mentioned it would take you four hours...are you coming straight in on I 64, or are you wiggling in on the back roads...seems like it would only be about 3 hours on the interstate...just a thought

Gary
Hey there Gary,

Thanks for the suggestion. The route that I'm planning is a little more scenic then jumping up onto 64. The time differences between the two rides is fairly minimal.

In a car... driving straight thru to Waynesboro on 64 is about 3.5 hours. With butt breaks on a bike it'd probably be about 4, anyway... so, I figure taking the scenic route is more my speed. Also riding the route that I'm taking, I'll be somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 to 4.5.

I'm planning on 460 out of town into Petersburg, north on 95, 288 around Richmond to Rte 6. 6 is south of 64 & travels in similar directions. I'll probably hit 151 to 64 & follow your directions in from there. I was thinking about going a little south to hit the BRP but I probably won't.

I'll get there fo' sho'!

See you guys soon. Be safe,

Heidi

Luvtoride - wish Lorie and I could meet up w/you and ride in, but she'll be in a car (hopefully just for the "get to the meetin' part) and we'll be riding 95 to rt 3 (Fredericksburg) to 33 to 20 to 64. If that works for you in any way, we'd be happy to meet up with you. If not, see you at the Cracker Barrel.

Jim, I wish that we could meet up, too. I'll be coming in from the southeast (Norfolk) & you look to be coming from the northeastern parts. Our meeting will probably have to be at the Barrel. Thank you so much for the offer, though... because it's a good possibility that I'll be riding into town alone & it sure would've been nice.

I'm ok with that, though. Last weekend I rode to & from Johnson City, TN by my lonesome. Now THAT was a long ride alone.

See ya' soon,

Heidi

Heidi,

when you come to the end of 151 you will have to turn left on 250 west ("T" intersection) to the top of afton mtn then hook up with the directions from that point onto 64 west to exit 94

Would like to suggest taking route 6 west from 151 (a left turn onto 6; a ways before the intersection of 151/250) route 6 goes straight to 250 and involves very tight uphill twisties  for about 2 miles before route 6 runs into 250 (left onto250 west to I 64 west intersection)

Heidi ,

I am thinking I will come east to hook up with you ? gotta talk to Shields & look at the map ,, lets hook it up for a good ride in!!! not like we havn't done it before !!RT 58 , RT 8 Floyd , the apple pie Yummm!!!!

oh, yes... yes... Floyd (Rte 8) fond memories created as we played "Find William's Lost ***" HAHAHA!!!

You're gonna' ride east to meet me? Very, very cool! Where ya' wanna' meet? I'd divert a bit from my route if need be. The reason that I picked that route is because it's direct, done it a few times b4 & it's a decent ride. When the leaves are on the trees Rte 6 is very scenic... rolling hills and that happy horse stuff. This time of year you just get the rolling hills.

I still haven't heard from Jay. He's been going through some hectic times at work. I probably won't know until Thursday or Friday if he's a go.

Right now my plan is to be on the road by 7:00am... almost o' dark thirty.

Let me know your route intentions & we'll make a plan.

Heidi

Just an FYI for anyone coming through Greene County (just north of charlottesville/albemarle county) be VERY mindful of your speeds in Greene county--they are known for pulling people over for a mere 5 mph over and issuing the ticket-not just a warning...

Forecast for Waynesboro, VA this Saturday...

Partly Cloudy...Low 53, High 75.

Should we expect to see a climate difference on the BRP?

Absolutely expect a temp difference (drop) up high... although, I'm pretty sure that this part of the BRP doesn't get up terribly high. I always overdress. Can always take stuff off, right? But, if I'm comfortable even if it appears that I'm overdressed I usually won't take stuff off.

Anyhoo, it's just a tad early to get an accurate forecast... although, in the 70's sounds really, really good.

If anyone is familiar with the area, Skyline Drive is just above Waynesboro, right? Since I'm coming from the north, was considering coming down Skyline Drive en route to Waynesboro, but, not sure if it's worth it. Is it worth it and about how long will it take to do Skyline Drive?

I haven't done the full length of Skyline although I have rode part & can tell you this... the speed limit is 35 & probably not an ideal way to expedite your trip. I'm sure that someone more familiar w/ this area will pipe up & give you more info.

I do remember that the scenic views were awesome!... & it was very hard to keep it below 45. Not a good thing... This is federal land. I do believe that the rangers are giving tickets like on the BRP... VERY steep fines for speeding.
