My 2009 is running crappy. I took it from L.A. to Lone Pine and up to Whitney Portal at 8000 feet. Woa! Big time surging. It even surges at sea level and seems to hic-up sometimes, when I roll on the throttle. I haven't been riding it much so maybe I gummed up the injectors? I don't know. Anyway, its out of warranty and I am looking for a good mechanic in SoCal, preferably near the Santa Monica area. Thanks.

You could also try some Techron and see if that helps. With the shitty fuel we have these days it's worth a shot. IIRC Turbo Dave has given Yamaha of Rancho Cucamonga some good reviews.
Good Luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Much appreciated. I need to find a mechanic a little closer to to the greater L.A. area, preferable towards Santa Monica or the West Valley.

Here's a suggestion, all my friends swear by this guy.

Greg the owner of G and G motorsports https://www.gandgmotorsports.com/

The shop is in Reseda.

He has been very fair with me and I trust him.

Here is the draw back, he is a one man shop and sometimes takes longer to finish the work.

He tries not to overbook, but you know stuff happens.

If you contact Greg mention my name Randy Hill, he would know who Draggon Rider is.

I've never been able to get into G & G, never returned my calls. I've heard good things about him though as a mechanic.

I've been using AIP Racing in Van Nuys. They've been reliable and fair

Yes I've heard that, I just drive in (it's within walking distance) and say "Hey Greg, I've got a problem when can you get to it?'

I liked Kolby in Woodland Hills but they closed also.

I've heard unplesant things about Robinson Honda in North Hollywood.

I've been more than content with RPM Cycles in Ventura. They've been very fair to me over the years. The owner, Gary, is very knowledgeable and stands by his work. He's an old BMW head but he works on everything from Aprilia to quads. It's the only shop I take my 08 to.

It's a ways out of Santa Monica but Gary at Beach Yamaha in Huntington Beach knows his stuff. He runs a small shop and does a lot of the repairs himself. Good guy. I've taken all my Yamahas to him, over the years.
