One way of trailering your goldwing

I like that! However, the 'wing has a trailer too? Taking an RV, and then a bike as well, and they STILL need a trailer behind the 'wing??

I would dearly like to see how they it up there though.

I have a bike rack hanging off the back of my RV, and I just heave the bikes up to it. But, those bikes have 21 speeds, not 6 plus reverse.

 
Yeah, we were wondering that too. Is it hydraulic (I'd hope so). And what kind of reinforcement do you need to the frame of the RV to have that much weight on the back?

 
Wednesday, on the way to Detroit for a family reunion, I snapped this pic through the windshield of my car. Thankfully my wife was driving.

First - holy crap, I can't imagine how much they spent to make that possible..

Second - How did you let your wife drive. I need serious help with that. I would drive 48 hours straight, to make sure that I did not have to rely on MY woman's driving "skills". (Notice I said "MY" - not for my possessiveness, but to avoid insulting other women drivers who may be board members..)

As per the considering a goldwing, it's a pleasant surprise. Switched bikes with an 08 goldwing rider for a few hundred miles. I just didn't feel comfortable with a 1000 lb bike being something I learn on. So after a few months and a few thousand miles of riding, I found and bought my FJR. And I'll be riding it till the wheels fall off.

As per my next bike after the years it takes for this to happen, it could very well BE a goldwing. We'll just have to wait and see.

I have never seen anything like that. Why not tow and enclosed trailer with the wing, sop and trailer all in one place? Holy mother...

short version: I emailed my brother last week about the PIA it was taking the pipes off for an oilchange on a VSTAR1100 (he knew somebody buying one). He emailed back saying his shop charges him for more than 2 hours labor on an oil change on his '09 wing because they have to take off a lot of the fairing! :blink:

Send her to a track school. (for cars) Really. All one way, no other side traffic, an in the car instructor, (that's NOT you), helping her to learn where the edge of the envelope is and how to get there best, and recover when she crosses the edge. She will gain huge confidence and skills in just a day or weekend class. Yeah, it's a bit of a splurge, but we're talking lifetime skills here. Not a lot I could find in MT, but this is an example of what I'm talking about - Skip Barber

Actually I have a very sweet and wonderful wife who is an excellent driver. And by that I mean that she at one point in her life worked for the Chicago office of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol as an investigator. She learned how to "really drive" on the interstates around Chicago in a souped up Federal Car, chasing down drug dealers. And she's originally from Detroit. I have no problems handing the wheel over to her. In fact, I trust her so much, I was actually doing homework (going back for a college degree) in the passenger's seat. I was writing C++ code on my laptop and SHE noticed the 'wing and asked that I take a picture.

While there are some differences between the '03s and the '08s, I'm not sure what would have changed that would affect oil change procedures. My '03 requires only the removal of the right side panel, just above the rider's foot, to refill the engine. Nothing needs to be removed to drain the oil, and, while flat rate might include removing the "chin piece" where the driving lights mount, I've yet to see anyone do it. I think his mechanics are including time for a l-o-n-g lunch! (He should at least request a kiss before he pays the bill!)

 
I have a friend who bought one of those hotels-on-wheels and was considering a setup like this for his bike. I have been looking into a hitch mounted carrier for my track bike. Most of those are under 400.00.

 
I actually started looking a little, for a hitch rack for fjr. My F350's hitch is a 1500# hitch, but I basically chickened out and abandoned the idea.

I realized that the bike would put sideways-torque on the hitch that a trailer wouldn't, and I doubt the hitch is designed for that kind of loads.

As much as it pains me to contribute to this little thread-jack -- I must.

Recently I talked with a State Motor Patrol Officer and he said the BMW dealer charges the state $400 for an oil-change on his R1150RTP..!
