Ok, so I'm riding out to Reno in July... and this is what I'm contemplating.

Drive to Reno will be fairly leisurely... do some of the scenic stuff up through New Mexico, Colorado, and Southern Utah. I'll probably get to Reno a day early just to rest/hit the casinos. Plan on riding a good bit while we're all there. Here's where I'd like opinions.

I'm considering doing a Bun Burner Gold BBG (1500 miles in 24 hours) and or a Saddle Sore Two Thousand SS2K (2000 in 48 hours) on the way home. The easiest way I can see is I80 due East out of Reno... all the way to Lincoln, Nebraska, then cut over to Kansas City (almost exactly 1500 miles). I've got some relatives in K.C. I can briefly refresh myself with, then head south to Dallas (depending on how I feel) which is another 500 miles. This would get me a BBG on the first leg, and the SS2K on the second. I guess I could also stretch out the first leg to 36 hours and just get a BB, as an option if I'm not up to the BBG I'll then push on to Houston, or find a motel and get some rest before continuing on if I think that's more appropriate.

Questions:

1) Anyone think doing this at the END of the earlier week+ of riding is too much?

2) Anyone willing to wake up early Sunday AM to witness my paperwork in Reno?

3) Guess I'll definitely need to call Sunnyside to order those new Azaros for install at the convention...

4) Any other comments would be welcome. This won't be my first long distance ride, but will be a lot relative to the riding I'll do beforehand.

Thanks for any input...

1) If you think you want to party at all Saturday night before like the rest of us....you're going to have trouble Sunday. If you have the discipline to get well rested and aren't wiped out from Reno heat during the weekend (especially Saturda) you should be OK.

2) Sure. Call my room and my hangover witness signature looks close-enough to my non-hangover signature that it should pass IBA muster. I see I've made it on the pre-approved witness list as probably are some others at the event.

3) Natch.

4) The BBG is an extreme ride any different way you look at it. Slabbing it from the West to Midwest makes it a bit easier. And you sound like you have an escape plan.

Thanks for the reply Iggy...

Also bounced the plan off Mike Kneebone... and he seemed to think it looked ok. One of the things I'm pondering now is the time to leave Reno. Don't think I'll have any issues avoiding overindulging Saturday night... but still, If I want to do the BBG in one shot, and for calculation sake say I averaged 75 MPH... that consists of approximately 21 hours of saddle time to get to KC on the planned route. I guess if I potentially left Reno at say 4 to 5 AM... and rode for something like 20 hours... it would be around midnight and I'd only be an hour or so from KC. Just a matter of deciding when/where to get my gas receipt, and witnesses.
