Would like to say thanks to all those that rode sunday. orangevalefjr, tinker , bluestreak, and to my self. I have not been on that part of hwy 49 in over 30years,and it is a great ride on that road. It was a very spirited ride in parts which I liked. ( I-80 to truckee )

I would also like to comment on the incident at the restraunt the gentileman in the wheel chair. First a big thanks for everyone help in helping that wheel chair person when he was upended and landed on his head. That is what life and being a person of good character is all about. When in need help out. I just hope the rest of his day went better with out any more incidents.

I would to state for myself, that I had a chance to make his day a little brighter and I did not go that extra step. I should have enterained a good deed and provided lunch for him and his young daughter. When I am up riding in that area again and i see him, I will extend my offer to him and hope he accepts.

We had a great time, and although the ride planning didn't pan out (what were identified as major roads on maps.google were actually dirt, which required a route alteration. Luckily, people liked it (I-80 to Truckee).

Sherri took 205 pictures that day, so I'll reserve comment util some of those are posted.

Well, you aren't gonna see all 205 on this thread! I get enough complaints about my bandwidth usage

...but here come some of the nicest of the 205 and I have to say that Sherri has reached a new level with the camera.

The route changed from the original plan because we ran into some dirt roads once you get past the little town of Washington on Washington Road off of Highway 20 between Nevada City and I-80.

Therefore we began the ride at Bell and 49 in Auburn...the coffee hadn't kicked in yet

and took Bell to I-80. Then we went East on 80 to Colfax and took 174 to Grass Valley (Brunswick Road) and hopped on 49 which turns into 20. 174 was a fun ride, but as usual on this road, we were stuck behind quite a few cages.

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy! Tinker, Bluestreaks, Weekend Rider:

20 was really nice up to Washington Road. The road is in fantastic shape and there are some really nice vistas. The turns are fast and the mountains are so grean this year...all the way into Fall. Wonderful!

For me, the best treat of the day, although it took us to my first mistake in ride planning (for this day), was Washington Road. It's twistier than 20, even the straights have weaves and the forest gets so dense that I felt as though I was in some kind of magical fantasy setting! I had so much fun going down this road...and a LOT more going up it since I had seen it once before The road has a nice mixture of feeling enclosed, and being up above everything...here is a view from near the top:

So...as it was my favorite, here are more of Washington Road in the area where you get down into the hills and forest. This road leads to an old mining town near the river at the bottom of the canyon.

The road leads to the Haunted Washington Hotel! Nice restraunt/bar/great place to hang out for a few minutes to correct the ride route to avoid the dirt roads.

Let's get on the road again!

We went back up Washington Road to 20 and continued East to I-80. We decided that 80 to Truckee then 89 North to 49 to Auburn was the route with Bluestreak taking a right on Marysville Road to go home to....Marysville...then Weekend Rider took off on another road 193? to go home to Woodland and Tinker stopped for gas I suppose (unplanned) so Sherri and I were alone from Grass Valley home.

From 20, Sherri swears this section of the NID (Nevada Irrigation Ditch) goes uphill!

We zipped up 80 at 80 and then hit 89 North. This time I decided the Highway number wasn't the posted speed limit and I chilled a bit to enjoy the scenery. There is a point on 89 where you think you are just going to be following a flat valley North, then you come around a bend and you realize that you must be about to go downhill...a great vista opens up to you and you look down upon the Sierra Valley. I will always love this section of 89 for this treat!

89 has fast sweepers...and the Aspen were really nice.

We stopped in Sierraville for lunch. This place had really good chile verde!

Sierraville is in the Sierra Valley and this ranch is about 5 miles West of Sierraville. There are about 100 tree stumps outside this ranch. Apparently they went short on firewood, or the winters went long a few times! Those stumps speak of some hard winters that the tough residents of places like this deal with. I look at old ranches and sometimes wish I was born a long time ago and could have lived there before all the modern conveniences. Then I remember the scale: 1 HP vs. 145 HP.

This house just up the road had the typical ring of trees as a wind break and I love the colors, but wonder how the people that live there feel about the impending winter. By the way, it snows up here! This area is due North of Lake Tahoe and it is pretty high.

Now we got onto 49 headed toward Downieville. There are a few facts and this is one: 49 is a great road.

Oh yes that was a great ride and beautiful scenery. Most of all, the day and route were perfect and especially the Orangevale"s passenger "the picture lady " you do a maginficent job finding and taking pictures. You definetley have a very good eye for that camera when it comes to taking pictures. Keep up the good work

Great pictures, nice ride report. I live in Yuba City and ride those roads a lot. In fact will be going up 20 tomorrow and over to Carson City area (have a few days vacation). I was out with my son doing a little dirt riding on Sunday, sorry I missed the ride. I have been thinking about joining one of these group rides, just never seem to get the timing right.
