Here's what I came up with so far, any input is welcome.

30 to Astoria

Stop at Safeway for gas (we should easily have half a tank or more left, but it's convenient)

Swing by John Jacob Astor Elementary School (from Kindergarten Cop)

Astoria Column (think it's $1 for "parking" (maintenance fees))

Josephson's Smokehouse

Down the coast to Cannon Beach

Stop at Mo's Chowder House for lunch

Down the coast to Newport

Hit Yaquina Head Lighthouse (looks like it's $5 per vehicle, can't say if they'll give us a break, but last time I went on a bike they did)

US 20 inland

Haven't finished the return routing due to other obligations. I don't know the roads down there really well and don't want to map out a suck route, but I want to try and avoid the slab.

If nobody cares about the school or column, we can skip them - it's just a nice break, and great view from up top of the column if you care to climb the stairs.

I'm also open for breaking off at Tillamook to head in rather than continue to Newport, and could take 6 in to 47 down to McMinnville to visit the Spruce Goose (+ museum admission).

What do you guys think?

I'm in for whatever.

I lived in Newport for five years and know all the roads like the back of my hand in Tillamook, Lincoln and Benton Counties. I can get us home creatively if we go that far south.

I can see the Spruce Goose with my wife and kid anyday - I'm more interested in ridin', especially if the weather holds up. That said, it's a pretty sweet view from the Column on a nice day... B)

Same as before - Airport Way Best Buy, 8am.

Good deal.

Sounds like a plan then...

@FJR Jeff,

You up for a west side pick-up around 8:30-8:45? I'm coming from SW down in the Taylors Ferry area and FJR&R is coming from Tigard. There's just something about riding out to Airport Way only to do a U-turn that doesn't excite me.

If you're thinking of going Hwy 30, we could wait for you at the McDonalds in the NW Portland Industrial Area, just northwest of the Freemont Bridge. I could fatten myself up on a couple o'egg mcmuffins, too, while we wait...

I don't blame you.

Hwy 30 was the plan.

Is the McDonalds on Yeon and 26th (past US Bank)?

Hey,

Looks like good weather, I'm in. Where would you like to meet up?

I'd like to meet up at Cannon Beach with you guys, and head back South to Newport and wherever. If that is ok.
No problem, but it'll be tricky to pin down a time... want someone to call you or something?

Mileage right now from our start point (Best Buy) to Cannon Beach is 134, 2:51, but that doesn't account for meeting up at McDonald's, and stops at the Astoria Column or Josephson's (this won't take too long).

We could give you a holler when we leave there to head to Mo's, meet up for lunch, then head down the coast, or you could guess as to what time we'll show up. :D

Is this the McD's your thinking of? McDonald's at 3208 NW YEON, PORTLAND, OR 97210-1524.

If so I will be there about 8am to have a sausage, egg whatever and be saddled up by 8:30am.

Bill

Is there anybody even coming from the east side other than me?

There was a new guy out in Sandy, I think, for the volcano ride...

Otherwise, I might be sitting there all alone. :(

Yes, the McDonalds on Yeon, right across from the US Bank. See you there around 8, 650 Cent.
Of course, I may have to change my Avatar if I eat at the golden arches... :D

Unfortunately, my wife reminded me of a couple commitments, so I think I may have trouble getting on the road in time to get there. Unfortunately also, getting a signal on my cell on the coast is spotty at best. Would the following guestimate make sense? Your start is 0800 with 3 hours strait time travel, plus stops, sightseeing, etc. Maytbe you'd get to Cannon Beach about 12-12:30? If you are stopping at Mo's, I'll try to get there a tad early and hang out. You'll be the guys on on Feejers........ maybe a play it by ear thing?

Your call. Should be easy to spot us.

Understand the commitments. I'm waffling right now due to a significant pile of schoolwork that is on my plate. Going to try and knock out what I can and see where I end up...

Try is all we can do.....I doubt anybody will be disappointed with the ride if we miss each other.....

Waffling? This ride was your idea, man! (I'm not complaining, just bummed if you can't make it...)

I think I'm clear. I just got a surprise dose of schoolwork. I'm trying to complete a bachelor's in CIS, and I dicked up one of my AS/400 labs in conjunction with needing to complete work on a 15 page paper on top of the regular work for the week. I have most of the trouble cleared out at the moment - enough to buy me breathing room to Sunday anyways...

Unless some bad news comes back on the AS/400 lab over the next couple of hours, I'll be there...

Awesome ride guys, thanks!

I ended up door to door with 393 miles yesterday. Haven't checked the GPS to see what the stats were for travel time and top speed, but I left at 8am, and pulled in to the garage at 7:01pm.

I had 378 total miles, door to door. It was a good ride. Not a drop of rain, a good meal at Mo's in Cannon Beach with some birthday ice cream, one bird trapped under my windshield at 70 mph (sorry 'lil feller) and ending with a sweet ride up Hwy 223 w/o a car in sight.

I'll try and get some pictures up in the next day or so. I have to rely on my wife's laptop for that and she left it at her office this weekend.

Good meeting you guys. We'll do it again.
