After that I did not take any more pictures until we got home.

We did have a good time up until Thursday. We may have to go back just to finish the trip. We only put 1700 miles on the bikes on this trip. Should have been around 2500 miles.

Great pictures. Did you end up renting a truck to take the bikes home? I wondered about that during our 2005 road trip. DH got real sick with a kidney stone when we were about 800 miles from home. Thankfully, he was able ride after a couple of days resting in a motel.

Deja Voo, all over again, did that trip last year. Really hard to beat riding in the Black Hills, Your right about SD 34 first time I've actually prayed to see a gas station.

Sorry to hear about Vicki's bike, to have to interrupt a trip like that is just a crime.

Pray tell, what did you select to eat at brightbachs? They have some hellacious steaks there.

Grew up in Rapid City and still have family there that I visit at least once a year maybe twice. Some of the nicest cruising in the country. The Black Hills while not the fastest roads but are some of the prettiest in the country. Even though it is a smallish area there are still miles and miles of roads to ride if you know the area and back roads at that.

While back at Christmas time my two brothers and I rode through the Black Hills on Dec. 23. Temps in the 40's and dry clean roads. Of course I had to ride a Harley which by the way was a really nice ride.

Vickis is the 06. Talked to the dealer yesterday and they are ordering a new ignition. Not sure when it'll be in.

We had to back track to Rapid City for the truck. Spent an extra day at the Rosebud Quality Inn & Casino. They were great people, the manager tried to find someone with a trailer to help us. She knew someone with a trailer and he was willing to take the bike to Pierre SD to the Yamaha dealer there. Not sure what they could have done but to know we had a way to get there was a small comfort.

So if you're ever in Valentine NE stay at the Rosebud, and yes I'd go back.

I'm at Ellsworth AFB (Rapid City) right now, staying in the Fam Camp ! Brought the Motorhome & Jeep this trip (been here on a bike before & will again !) for the Wife & kids vacation. Been here almost 2 weeks now really enjoying the area (and backroads). They had an Open House with a lot of displays & fly bys today with A-10 demo & B1B fly bys as well as a P-38 & B25 Mitchell that left for airport in town. One of the best areas to come to for most awesome roads & scenery with lots to do. I camped off my bike here in '76 also . . . .

Damn man if I would have known that I would have hooked you guys up with my family. My dad was an Air Force lifer and has live on/off the base since 1962. My brother is a retail manager for a liquor distributor in Rapid City. I am glad you are having a great time and I know the weather will not really cooperate all the time there.

Mike in Fremont, Ca but Rapid City is my home.

Thanks for the trip report and pictures. I was stationed at Ellsworth 91-92. Your pictures brought back some good times. I loved riding in the Black Hills during off tourist season.

Crazy Horse has a face now. Badlands look the same.

Too bad the ignition went out. I am looking to buy a 06 FJR any day now.

I saw an FJR on the Base today & snapped a picture. Later I talked for a bit in the road with Marshall07 as He was on His way off Base ! Third Forum member I have met face to face since joining the board. Have ran across 4 Feejers up here in the Black Hills area over the last 2 weeks . . . .

While at Breitbachs(?) they had the lunch buffette so we had that. Fried Chicken, mashed taters, sweet taters, stuffing :dribble: damm I'm getting hungry! It was all good.

We HAD to rent the truck to get Vickis back home, no other way. It ended costing way more than I had planned on. But the dealer told us that Yamaha had called them and they would overnight the igntion to them. They didn't say when it would be in thou.

Also while out in the Black Hills we saw these signs

2007_0616Test0206.jpg

We also saw someone trying to get close to one of the buffalo. Don't know what happened to him nor do I care. If ya can't read the sign, here's your sign.

No to YES. But Vicki talked to Yamaha yesterday and they will be picking up the repair bill. :clapping: :yahoo:

Not sure about the trip interruptus or rental, Vicki asked but the rep she talked to couldn't make that call. They may ot may not.

Good for you! Just did the same trip, PA to Keystone (Spokane Creek lodge) and back. Got the same photos. Passed a parked 07 in the motel parking lot in Keystone Jul 3 and 5. Did get caught in the middle of a buffalo herd crossing the road in Custer. Wee bit nervous... 15 states, 9 days, 4,145 miles.

What a great bike!

What was the verdict on the ignition?
