Anyone out there in the Nor Cal area have any experience with re-painting their FJR or other faired M/C? I was referred to Cycle Finish (Bobby Keith) in the Redwood City/Menlo Park area and was hoping to get input from Forum members on any knowledge or experiences they may have regarding this shop. I recently scratched up '05 from a mid-speed get-off and replacement parts will be over $1700 from Gary @ University Motors (with the group discount) and over $3000 from the local list price Yamaha Dealer + 12hrs labor. The damage is cosmetic, but extensive. Fortunately there are no broken or cracked plastic parts, just road rash. So I believe I can go to Cycle Finish (or another quality shop), have them repair-refinish the body parts rather than replace them. And end up with a color change in the process. Or I could stay with the stock color for even more of a savings since a few panels and the fenders are O.K. I do like the Galaxy Blue, but something different would be quite nice.

BTW, sliders are great but when the bike leaves the asphalt for the shoulder, rocks and pebbles fly up and blast the front lower body panels the sliders were "supposed" to protect. But they do help some. At least I could ride the bike home! Cycle Finish

That's what the sliders are intended for, not to eliminate all damage.

You might check with the sportbike places/hangouts/guys, maybe even Cycle Gear or like/type "bike box stores". The Rogdebs had theirs painted by a man who is a body and fender guy, but does work in his garage. That might be a place direction to try.

I had a scratched bag on my '03 when I bought it used. Bobby Kieth did the refinishing and did a good job. Make sure your estimate is in writing, as he may not remember the quote accurately.

Tilly,

We are pleased with our paint job. Never actually met the guy who did it as the dealership made all the arrangements.

Speak to Andre, one of the service managers at PCP Yamaha (916-428 4040) if you need more info -- or PM me.

Please do NOT bother to respond to this EX-FJR owner. His bike was totalled - by the insurance dude. He bought a 2000 BMW w/ 20K miles on it and it looks brand new.
