To all the owners of the OHFJR or Premier Cycle Accessories Passenger Backrests

Thru high cycle fatigue testing it has been discovered that the Rack Mounted Backrest bar may develop hairline cracks in the bend area over time. This could develop into a hazardous condition. At this time it only affects the Rack Mounted Backrest Unit, not the Standalone Backrest Unit. However, rather then take any chances we are issuing a recall for both the Rack Mounted Backrest units and the Standalone Backrest Units for replacement or modification. We are asking all owners to immediately cease using their backrest and take them off your bike. We will be emailing all owners of record with instructions for their particular unit. Due to email address changes and other factors we may miss a few owners. If you have not received an email from Premier Cycle Accessories by the Monday the 12th please email us at the address below and let us know what unit you have. We will be working as fast as we can to get your backrest unit back on your bike. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Please use UPS ground service only to send backrest back to us. We have had several people ship us their backrest back Next Day Air and they live in NY, Iowa where the snow is knee deep. The new backrests are several weeks from being ready to ship out anyways. From this point forward, we will invoice the shipping cost difference to any customer that uses anything but ground service to return their parts to us.

OhFjr, am I to read into this statement that new backrests are the cure, you are not modifying the existing bracket? If so, keep us posted when the new units are ready? I will continue to use my existing bracket until the new ones are ready. Clarification - I won't use the backrest for passenger use but rather as a mechanical 'stop' for a canvas bag I carry back and forth to work, so no human-related safety issues here.

We are going to replace the rack mounted backrest bar (currently Aluminum) with a steel one and we are going weld a support brace onto the backrest standalone unit. Even though we are going to replace the old rack mounted backrest bars, we want the old backrest bars back so we make sure no one is using them.

Doh! I should have mentioned I have rack mounted backrest bar. Keep us/me posted when the new ones are ready and I'll *ground* ship mine back to you. THANK YOU for being honest and fair with your findings and treatment of customers. I very much appreciate it and will continue to buy stuff from you. :yahoo:

We are requesting that everyone quit using their backrest immeadiately and take them off your bike. You can send them back ASAP and the new ones will be shipped out to the owners who have returned their backrest bars.
