Check on eBay. Escort was selling refurb passports with a factory warranty for a very attractive price. I snagged one myself.

Thanks for the response, I didn't see any refurbished units from Escort. I also checked the Escort web site with no refurbished results. Did see a new one for about $250 but it was from an unauthorized dealer. Ian

Thanks for the site info, look like good deals. Are the newer units (red/blue) worth an extra $60? The $150 one looks like my 8-10 year old one that finally gave up the ghost. Ian

That is somewhat of a personal decision, depending a lot on what you are expecting from your RD.

I bought a refurb 8500 red (non-X50) because from what I have read, the X50 doesn't actually get you any added sensitivity, and I don't see the point of a blue display. Red is better for your night vision. Oh, and did I mention I am a tightwad frugal Yankee? I considered that the RD is out in the elements for which it was never intended. It will probably get wet and broken sooner or later, and I don't want to be out 3 bills at that time.
