I just installed a used PCIII on an 04 FJR and can't seem to set the Throttle Position. I have bike warmed up, computer and PCIII connected and "talking". When I open the window to set the throttle positions I select "reset", give the throttle a quick "wack" opened then off and I can't get the position to read zero. When I attempt to save the settings I get a message "difference between open and closed settings is below recommended limit". The closed setting is 3064 and the open setting is 3104. Shouldn't the open setting be much higher??

Is it an error on my part or what is wrong.

Thanks in advance

From what I know, you are not going to get the closed setting to be "zero" 3064 sounds about like what I got on mine, so I'd say that is good. It looks like you need to set the max throttle position now as they are both the same. I remember that the instructions I had for my PCIII said that the max position did not HAVE to be set, the default would work. On my set up, that is true.Seems to be the full open value is a 5 digit number , like 34500, but I may be wrong on that. Also, I do not think you need to select the "reset". That may be causing you some grief. Hope I helped a little .

But once you've picked the menu option you do have to set the max position. I didn't have a 9V adapter for mine so I had to do it with the bike running. At idle, pick the menu item, and when the software is ready, twist to max very very quickly and return immediately to idle. It will get a position reading and if you're quick enough you won't leave it bouncing against the rev limiter.

If it makes you feel better, practice the supertwist/close before you start the engine.

Or alternatly you could do it like I did. Idle the bike, set the low limit, then hit the kill switch and crank the throttle to the stop and set the upper limit. The bike doesn't have to be running for the upper limit, just on B)

Of course you do need the 9v adapter

I spoke with Dynojet today and they came to the conclusion that the PC III is not receiving a signal from the TPS and therefore I can't set the throttle position.

How do I get the TPS to talk with the PCIII? Any suggestions

Have the 9 volt hooked up. Have the USB cable hooked up. Have the Power Commander utility window up and running. Set the kill switch to off, this stops the fuel pump from running needlessly (bike does not need to be running). Turn key to on. Bring up the "Adjust throttle position" window from the toolbar at top of Power Commander. Click the "reset" button on the TP window, then twist throttle from idle to WFO a couple times. Click "OK" on the TP window. Now, click the arrow that points to the left-this is for setting idle position. Note it will settle at around 5350 (Gen I) or so-now click "OK". TP is now set-you can twist the throttle and see the led's light up and down the scale. Turn the key off, disconnect the PC leads, and start the bike. You should see the leds range up and down just like before. It's set.
