Can anyone tell me how the PDP process works? I get different stories from Customer Relations in Cypress, and dealerships.

Cypress says: Bikes are received in Cypress, CA, and shipped directly to dealers based on PDP numbers

Dealers say:Bikes come in CA, and are shipped to distribution centers. Some gray area here, the distribution centers send to the dealers based on 'allocations' (some gray area here), and arrive at the dealers sometime (within 2 weeks) after arrival at the distribution centers, but ONLY after the dealer invoices them.

Also, I've read that you get a 'thank you' only letter from Yamaha about 2 weeks prior to the dealer receiving your PDP'd FJR.

Anyone know how it really works?

TWN, were you enlightened during meditation?

Tony (lotechredneck) is a dealer and probably could give you the best information, though it isn't going to make one teensy-weensy bit of difference as to when your lust for your new bike will be satisfied. Yuh gets it whin yuh gets it.....And that's the truuuttthhhhh!

I doubt the bikes are received in Cypress. They are probably received by Cypress at a local distribution warehouse, then shipped from there to the dealers. They are supposed to be shipped in the order that the PDP payment was received at Yamaha USA in Cypress CA.

Some dealers have waited and sent in their PDP packets in one bundle, this delaying the delivery of their allocations (more common the first go-around in '03, some in '04). Other dealers have ordered bikes in employee's names so they get FJRs "on-the-floor", a kind of "speculation" on the market.

I got my thank you letter from Yamaha about 1 month prior to receiving my '04. IMO, it was a form letter and a courtesy to let me know things were happening, certainly not a way to gauge when my bike would be sent.

Dealers typically know when a bike is "on the way" when they get the packet from Yamaha, however, some dealers have received bikes before the warranty packet arrived in the mail.

So, you see, it's not a Ponzi scheme, it's an enigma.

MM2 - thanks - makes sense.

Not sweating the wait, just wanna know how it works (really how it works) -- seem to get different answers, but your response seems to put some of the answers in perspective.

Yup

+ 1

...and some things never happen as you say. I never received any kind of confirmation letter from Yamaha ever acknowledging the cash I put down. Tony O emailed me a screen capture to assure me that my PDP was in, but that's all I ever received...

Here's how ithe pdp worked or didn't work for my me.

Dropped $500 on the dealer, he fired up his computor and placed the order in my name while I watched.

This was on Nov. 3, 05.

All this information when direcrly to the black hole dicussed else where in this forum.

We, the dealer and myself never heard a anything until he called me the last week in April to tell me he had received the floor plan for the bike from Yamaha, I was able to pick it up the following week on May 3.

It was A LONG DARK WAIT, and now that I a riding the FJR, it was worth every misaberal second. :yahoo:

I placed my order on 10/16/2005. I was told that I could expect the bike in March or April of 2006. I never got a confirmation/ thank you letter from Yamaha. I never received one shred of information from Yamaha or my dealer as to the status of my order or the whereabouts of my bike until it showed up at my dealer's door on May 11th.

My impression about PDP was that the earlier I got my deposit in, the sooner I would get my bike. I found out from members of this forum that is absoultely untrue. I know of several individuals who placed orders in December and received bikes in March. There is absolutely no rhime or reason to PDP.

There are several warehouses located around the country and they seem to be able to make their own decisions about who gets what, and when. For example, some of us (waiters) got our bikes without the hard bags, which showed up days or weeks after the bike. Some of us got the bags first, and the bike showed up later. Some of us, myself included, were told that the warehouse had the bikes, but would not ship them without the bags, resulting in a delay of two weeks.

Long story short, PDP is very poorly executed and is a public relations disaster for Yamaha. My suggestion, don't do it. FInd a dealer who has a bike on the floor, make a deal, and ride it home.

+1 After getting ****** around by the dealer i had my PDP deposit with, i asked for a full refund and found a dealer with the bike in stock and purchased it asap. I will NEVER put a deposit down on a bike sight unseen again.

My new 2006 FJR? She's great! thx for asking :)
