Today was my first real ride since I broke my ankle a few months ago (see the "stupid Avatar" thread for details).

I went out for the Patriot Guard ride to honor Cory Palmer from my hometown.

The estimate was that we had around 800 bikes and over a thousand riders show up to honor Cory.

I took about 50 pictures that you can check out here on my web page.

Wow! it must have been quite moving to be a part of an Honor Guard of that magnitude.

Did any of the disrespectful religious cult show up?

It was amazing - I had a part in organizing, since it was in my hometown, and it was great to be involved. Considering the sheer number of people we had it went amazingly well.

Yes, there were about 9-10 of them - they were several blocks away from the church, so our group didn't encounter them. A bunch of local Sussex County Rednecks did though - their van's tires were slashed, and the windows were broken out. At the end of the thing one guy charged the police line and got through, hitting one of the protesters before being arrested by the police. It was a little tense for a few minutes, but a low-flying police helicopter and several K-9's got things back under control.

Well then, I guess the cult will chalk that up as a victory. They seem to thrive on press coverage, however it comes about. As long as people keep making them victims instead of ignoring them, they'll keep showing up.
