Myself and three coworkers are going to ride NW Arkansas for a few days. They are not long distance riders and up for an 800 mile ride down and back so we will be hauling the bikes. I am looking for a recommendation on a safe place to park my pickup and trailer near the NW corner of the state for 4 to 5 days.

It looks like there is a nice big parking lot in front of the Econo Lodge just off highway 49 in Anderson MO which might be a great place to unload and start our ride.

Suggestions or ideas anyone?

A little further south, the Yamaha dealership in Harrison, AR. is really great. I'm quite certain those peeps would let you leave the trailer there. Not sure how you would get to Harrison, but if coming via Anderson, MO, Hwy 71 and Hwy 62 are good roads to pull a trailer full of bikes on.

I live in central Arkansas and can't really think of anything in the northwest portion of the state.

Let me ask, though. Are you planning to drop the truck / trailer then tour by bike staying in different places? Or do you plan to base out of one hotel while in Arkansas? Most any hotel would have parking space for your truck and trailer if you're staying there.

I have a friend, a ZRX riding buddy, who lives in Fayetteville. When I know your plans, I'll get with him for a recommendation in that area.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking of dropping the truck trailer and staying at different places but I think my coworkers would be more comfortable basing out of one location. From what I am gathering from reading Arkansas riding posts, I am thinking of basing out of Harrison which kills me because I hate hauling my bike in a trailer through great riding area.

Kevin, when John and I head to Arkansas in 2 weeks, we may stop by a dealer or two just as we are kicking around. We may ask them for you if you want. What size of trailer and truck in case they seem amicable to the concept.

After looking things over I might just base our riding out of Harrison rather than touring around. It looks like I would have divided highway 65 coming in from the North for all but the last few miles coming into Harrison for pulling the four place enclosed trailer.

Thanks Josh, I am leaning toward just basing our riding out of Harrison so I hope to find a hotel with room for the pickup and trailer. I think you guys stayed at the Quality Inn if I remember right. I did a little hotel research in Harrison and it seems like a decent hotel and a good price.

Welcome, I think that is where we stayed. It was clean, quiet, reasonably priced, catered to bike people in that they had towels in the lobby for washing your bike. They were older hand towels, but. One the less, they provided them. Adjacent to the hotel is an okay resturant. Kinda like a Perkins type place. And there was a liquor store right across the street in front of the hotel. The rooms had BOTH outside access and an interior hallway to the lobby. I bet you could park a trailer there.

Hope it works out for you all.

BTW, your buddy that has the enviable task of taking pictures with the CFO "mascot" must be slacking, cause I haven't seen any. What's up with that??

Willie Nelson is a slacker. I will have to make sure he brings Mr Happy Aerostich to Arkansas to get some updated pictures of his travel adventures.

Consider packing the bikes and moving through the State. Here's why:

While the riding north of I-40 and west of Hwy 7 is the best in the State, the riding and sites just south of I-40 and west of Hwy 7 are very nice too. Mt. Magazine, Mt. Nebo, Petit Jean, Talamena, etc etc etc. The trouble is from Harrison, you could devise a loop to see that stuff and return, but it would a very long day and really too much.

Suggestion - stay In Harrison two nights - loop ride each day. Third day pack the bikes and ride down to Clarksville - plenty of inexpensive hotels along the interstate there. Ride two loops out of Clarksville. Then on Day five, ride up to Harrison, load the bikes, and continue home.

Hwy 65 coming south into Harrison is fine. I do it from time to time in our RV. As you get into Harrsion you'll be on 4-lane going through Harrsion, but you'll be fine.

If this is your first time to Arkansas you may consider Eureka Springs, about 45 miles west of Harrison on 62. It's a tourist trap and very motorcycle friendly. Some people love it; some people hate it, but there's a lot of good riding out of there. The Eureka Springs Swiss Holiday has been very good to us over the years. Tell 'em Special Ed sent you

If your group is not into long days, though, Harrison may be your best bet. it puts you closer to things like Push Mountain Road, Mountain View, etc. And you can still easily work the western portion of the state into your itinerary.

If your group is into handguns, stop at the Saunders Museum in Berryville on Hwy 62 about 30 miles west of Harrison. It's just a few bucks, and worth a couple of hours if you group likes looking at very old handguns and other interesting and, in some cases, just plain weird stuff.

Also, if you don't want to trailer in that far, Eureka Springs offers a decent riding base. We stayed at the Candlewick Inn which is basically a room with a bed, but cheap and with good roads right outside of town. We had several guys with trailers in the parking lot too. Harrison is supposed to bet better but it's further into the state. Harrison adds another hour of trailering through good roads coming from my direction. Depends of course on where you are coming from. Coming in from the north, Harrison looks like the better option.

That's good advice. By staying in one place for a week, you're limiting yourself.

Just sitting here brainstorming I thought of RV storage. There are plenty of RV storage facilities in Harrison. Maybe one of them would make you a reasonable weekly rate to leave the truck and trailer. I'd say the cost would be insignificant added to a trip like this.

Kev, I know The Hub Motel has plenty of parking area if they're still in business and you're not looking for top-of-the-line accommodations.Located just a few mile south of Harrison.
I gave the Hub a lot of thought but they have an event called the Hillbilly Hangout going on there the same time we will be down there. I have also heard others say they prefer to stay in Harrison over the hub because of better access to civilization and a liquor store. Some day I want to try the Hub as it seems like my kind of place.

I was considering the same idea of spending a night or two down south rather than spending five nights in the same spot. If I was going alone I would prefer to stay in a different town every night but with the group I am going with I think basing out of one location with one night farther South may be a better idea. My fellow Firefighters where concerned we may end up in a dry town or county at the end of a days ride.

In Arkansas, that's a definite possibility.

I'd say most of the best riding roads are in dry counties.
