Oh sure I finish 1 ride and I start looking for the next.

I was rolling up Rt. 28 today in NH and doing about 55-60 and it kind of crests at the top of the valley below above Wolfeboro.

There is a Picnic area right there at the top. I know the lakes region ok and I start thinking to myself. We have done so many rides to eat, scenic rides. Twisty butt rides. Every ride takes on a flavor.

What would make a good filler ride this upcoming weekend if the weather holds is a Picnic ride!

Pack your cold chicken, your cold cut sandwiches or a thermos of soup. A self catered ride to find the most panoramic and beautiful picnic area NH has to offer.

I still use the poor man’s GPS (But it’s laminated) and it’s a week before the CB ride so I am thinking of just filling in the weekend before.

If weather permits I will be out and about. I will pack a lunch and just explore and see where the road takes me.

If anyone wants to tag along or if there is a ton of interest in next weekend we can make it more formal. (Actually make a route plan) I have no experience inn leading a group ride but I am sure I can show you how to become lost, and not care too much about it.

Hoy! You really are URGNT (to ride!!)

Sounds cool. Not a long ride.

Which day matters somewhat (to us) as we are prepping for the ride south to EOM. Details, details, ya know?

Long range forecast (aka educated overpaid weatherman's guesses) are of no help at all as they show beautiful fall days both days this coming weekend.

So give us a day and a time/place to meet. Some rough idea on how long you'll be out and where you want to venture. Then send us each $100 in cold hard cash.

(just kidding on the last, but you can PM me on my snail mail address).

PS - leading a ride can be pretty simple. Just say "show up at XYz place at A:BC time" and then have people follow you around 'till they need to leave, get bored and fall over, or it gets really dark and can't see you anymore, and then you can sneak away from them.

It looks like Saturday is going to be the day.

Latter start maybe 9 or 10 AM. For the sleep deprived

The route is looking like

RT 43 up from 101

From 43 to 107

107 past Pleasant lake jumping on US 4 for a short hop to 28

Then 11 and 11B following the southern part of the lakes 93 is just a bit west and will give early leavers the opportunity to bolt south

Continuing to the north side of the lake we follow 3 to 25

Getting on 109 in Moultonborough heading down the north side of the lake

Picking up 28 to the north and heading back into Alton/Alton Bay

Stops will be when something looks pretty and shinny (And they have a bathroom) or as need arise I will be looking at this closer as the weekend gets closer.

I figure stops to stretch would be a max of 90 min.

I have not tested this route and may become lost at any time. If we find something that is more spectacular than the rest we will stop for a photo op.

Start location will be somewhere around 101.

If you have an idea for a good meet spot please chime in.

This is a plan in progress …

All flaming must be directed to Fred W. for his encouragement.

No, no no... It's not "9 or 10"

Remember that you are the "ride master". (feel the vast power?)

You set the time. If you want it at 10 say so. Is 9 what you want? That's what it is!

None of the this Mamby-pamby "9 to 10" **** or else you'll be sitting around waiting for these lolly gagging people (including me).

"KSU by X o'clock or else we'll leave your sorry ***** behind!"

Yeah, yeah... that's the ticket.

And don't worry, we'll make it. We always do. ;)

Hey, Ride master...

I just found out from SWMBO that my schedule is NOT open on Saturday as I had anticipated. It is her mother's birthday and we will be taking her out for the day.

I don't want you to change anything just for us, but if this pic-a-nic happens to get pushed out to Sunday we would have a better chance of attending.

Carry on!

Leave a door open for me, please ?

Now, now. Not to worry. We'll be home when you get here.

You've got a whole bunch of slab to cover on Sunday. About 6 hours in the saddle by my reckoning. Unless you are planning on leaving real early in the morning, you won't be showing up down here 'till late in the afternoon. Long after any pic-a-nics would have wrapped up.

Yup - lots of slab-slogging on Sunday.

I guess I'll leave around 9. Picking up an hour when I cross into the US, I'll prolly land there between 3 and 4

Usually moving any ride to a Sunday is no big deal with us. But this weekend we are committed to a family event that day so Saturday has to be my ridding day.

It’s starting to look like a test run, scouting day as I don’t see to much interest in riding this weekend from my fellow NERDS. It will give me an opportunity to scout the best stops and routes.

If anyone is interested in tagging along they are welcome to. But it is looking like a very small group.

Hey Fred what model GPS do you use?

Oh and GalaxeBlue...

IT'S PENUT BUTTER AND JELLY TIME..

you have a good day singing that in your head on your way to work or soming for the next hour or so LMAO

Note to self; THE INTERNET NEVER FORGETS!!!

Here's a video of my friend James (aka Sid Narged):

Unfortunately I have a ton of house stuff to catch up on. I may have a free weekend in 2014 or so...

I have a Garmin Zumo 550 on the FJR and a Garmin Zumo 660 on the V-strom. They are very similar in operation, and relatively close in price. I'd go for a 660 right now if I were buying as it has more memory and you will not be map-space limited.

Not cheap by any means, but if you are going to use your GPS on the bike to follow routes a lot, I feel getting one of the Zumos is worth the extra coin. Before the Zumos I had a Garmin Streetpilot 2820 and that also was very capable, but is obsolete at this point in time.

Unfortunately Garmin is pretty much the only game in town. Other GPS makers have not managed to provide anything close to what a MC rider wants / needs.

Paul's working Sunday, so Saturday is our day for house chores, otherwise we would have tagged along. Enjoy the scouting mission and we'll await the announcement for the official ride!

At this point it looks like the 'beams are in. We usually do some variation of this ride during foliage season. We were a bit late one year and as we passed Melvin Bay I began to notice that BLACK ICE was forming on the road :shok: :skull:

It being Wed. it is time to show what I have planed. :clapping:

So here it is…

Kick stands up at 9:00am Saturday Sunday the 17th 18th I would move it to Sunday but I’m the ride leader calling the shots! (And have stuff to do Sunday with the family sorry if anyone is equally unavailable Saturday)

Start location is The Airport Dinner. Brown Ave, Manchester NH. https://www.thecman.com/restaurants/airport-diner/

Gas is available across the street.

Come early if you are needing sustenance. 8’ish

The route From Mapquest is just under 6 Hours with mileage of just under 200 https://www.mapquest.com/?version=1.0&hk=10-6D2YdGeX

This is a scenic ride at times to become Plus 10+ MPH Road, Traffic and Safety permitting.

This is a scouting run open to all would like to come. There will be a lot of stopping and detouring as I will be looking for the best picnic spots and vista’s to wow everyone on a latter date. Pretty trees are coming!

In my plan I am trading out a little scenic for speed and time on RT.28. For more betterer stuff up in the North Country with the lakes and Mountains.

This is Now carved in cardboard! Be there or… be there latter THE RIDE MASTER HAS SPOKEN! :assassin:

Ps. If you need times and routes moved a little just let me know.
