Thanks for posting Pharoah... I didn't take my camera this year. Wfooshee also took some excellent action shots. I was there, sorry I missed you... of course, I missed everyone.

Not a problem NOCAGE... This was my first time to make the races and all I can say is, if you have never been to one of these races you need to go... The only thing I have seen that compares is top fuel drag racing...

I never got to meet any other FJR riders there either, even though I saw a ton of them. I wanted to get by D & H's tent, but never made it... also I was a little tardy getting back to my bike after the race... the group I was riding with was sitting there with there helmets on waiting... while I was trying to hurry and pack up my stuff, a man on an 07 just like mine who was parked in front of me came up and was trying to talk. He probably thought I was rude but I was just in a big hurry. His bike had a Texas tag on it... if he is a member here I'm sorry because I would really liked to have talked for a minute...

it's cool to see such purpose-built machinery, where compromises are limited and function is emphasized..

I agree, it's also cool to see someone who can ride a bike like that to its limits or at least very close. T.V. doesn't come close to doing this kind of racing justice...

Nice pics!

The pic of the Yamaha 450 SuperSingle is the most interesting to me, though. (For those that haven't been following the SuperSingle development, it's a re-purposed 450 motocross or enduro bike; the WR450 in the case of this Yamaha.) IMHO, those are the perfect entry-level/amateur track bike.

Yeah... I saw these at Daytona Bike Week, and I would *love* to race one of those.

If I'm not mistaken, it's Roland Sands Design in conjunction with Performance Machine that's building the kits for these (PM lists kits for the WR450 and the Honda CRF450 on its site). RSD sells a fully-built, ready-for-the-track Yamaha for $15K.

I've got no interest in a 600cc or (God forbid) a liter bike to scoot around a track, but a 450 such as these or a 500 (like "re-purposing" my wife's Kawi Ninja 500R) would be perfect to learn on and gain some proficiency.

I didn't have time to wander the paddock, and I really wanted to. My pics are in my "AMA at Barber" thread in the Southeast section of the Regional Ride Planning and Sightings forum. Had fun learning a new camera without the user manual, then fixing everything in Photoshop afterwards. Lots of dark pics, lots of bright pics. . . .
