Why the spoiler tag? PST was the last to see it? Oh, wait... I forgot the average age here. Bedtime by 20:00 is typical.

Thursday's Blue Plate Special- Crow, delicately braised to scrumptious perfection, and plenty of it....

The REAL frightening part of the show: The PILOT didn't think it would take off!

Sheesh, science is still science.

I watched it, and I felt they left out some very important factors. The focused on what the take off distance and speed was, but not the ammount of thrust used. That is a major factor in my book. If they used an ammount of thrust that only allowed the plan to move a maximum of 25mph on the ground, and the "craptacular conveyor belt" was also moveing at 25mph, would there have been any forward movement to get air under the wings?

The pilot used whatever ammount of thrust he wanted to take off, which could easily overcome the ammount of reverse directional thrust being created by the conveyor.

Least thats how I see it.

Stop it right now, mister.

There is no reverse thrust created by the conveyor, only some drag on the free wheels. The whole point is science. The airplane uses thrust for forward motion, thus the conveyor belt and wheels can turn at whatever speed you wish. The conveyor belt will never counteract the forward thrust of the plane and the subsequent take off.

If the wheel speed had anything to do with the forward motion of the plane, then I guess it would fall out of the sky after take-off when the wheels stopped turning.

Wheel speed on a plane is a moot point. It is only air speed over the wings.

Some ketchup or fries with that, sir?

Does this subject qualify for NEPRT yet?
It's fine right where it is, as NEPRT posts amount to something, last time I checked. This discussion shouldn't even be a discussion. People who still think the plane won't take off should find another forum to go try to sell their BS.

IMHO.

IBTL.

If all this hubbub were true then the plane would have lifted off the ground like a helicopter. This did not happen.....he moved forward before he got airborn.
