Planning help Va. ride

Taking the autotrain to Lorton Va. (I live on Orlando Florida) this fall. Hoping to see some leaves changing (I hear they do that in the fall in some places). Need info on best time to plan trip to see color and any information on rides into the Washington and Jefferson national forest or other senic locations nearby. I'll only have about three or four days on the bike and have to end up in Lorton to catch the train home.

Any suggestions?

Dutch - let me mull on this; but if I started at Lorton and had to end up there after 3 or four days, I'd head west and go through VA - WV - TN - NC - and back to VA. I've been in 3 of the 4 (not in TN) and all have great roads. Best time to see color is Oct (isn't it?); also the best time to hang out in traffic with others folks who are there at the best time to see the colors. Suggested route also depends on your miles/day desires, what you want to do (ride, smell the roses, or both) and other stuff I'm sure I'll think of. Give us an idea of the above and I'm sure between the 3,700 of us we can give you some ideas!
