You may have seen from a previous thread that ours went wrong 2 days after Christmas. We sent it back to the supplier in Hong Kong, it cost us £80 ($160) in postage. It came back this week. working perfectly.

My son has come home from school today with a plan. PS3 is online and allows you to play with other people through your own console from your own arm chair. He and 7 of his mates are playing a game online tonight, it's a war game, (I know, I know, but they all seem to be), 4 against 4, all with headsets so that each team can talk to each other. How cool can it get?

What would you have done for this when you were 15?

The sad thing is Microsoft has been doing this with Xbox live for years now. Other companies such as Sony are just now starting to come out with these features.

Very cool indeed. Although my sons have numerous game consoles, the one they go to the most is the Wii. The interactive controls add a whole new dimension to the video game. The best part, they actually have to move around somewhat to use the Wii.

And I thought Pong was cool when I got it as a teen.

My son is an Xbox junkie. He and his cohorts go on line a couple of times a week to battle other Xboxers.

Virtual porn sounds real good about now

My son battles it out on XBox....has a tag of "ESPshredder".....now he claims we have too much lag in our connection, and we need to bling the ISP account a bit more. My repsonse?

Be my guest...you pay for what you want.

Yep, I've been on XBox Live since day 1. The thing that surprised me is I actually made some friends on there. Many of the Live community are adult males who grew up with Atari (I had a Coleco Vision when I was little) and still enjoy gaming. I bought my first XBox when I realized it looked and worked pretty damn good and so I didn't have to spend thousands to keep my computer fit for gaming. A few years ago I even ended up on a Ghost Recon 2 clan team and we were at one point 4th in the country.

I have found that shooting folks can be a great stress releiver after work, so I'm glad I found a "nicer" way to de-stress.

At 15, I probably would have never gotten off the machine. The stuff is beyond cool. It really is pretty staggering when I think about how fast this stuff has changed. Every now and then I feel like I'm living in the sci-fi novels I loved reading at that age.

I'm starting to see the downside in my 14 year-old, though. A couple of years ago, when he spent all his time running around outside, he was pretty ripped. Now that he spends his time on X-box live or on-line playing WOW, he's put on a ton of weight. We're going to have to find the balance here.

I've had a hard time switching from PC to console gaming. Before World of stinking Warcraft cracked out all the gamers with virtual lives requiring more attention than real life, our game room would be packed with people playing counterstrike and Medal of Honor. I think it's more fun to play in the same room. *Sigh* the good old days of gaming :( Now I prefer the interaction of Wii. It's not as fun as fragging the kids, but it's still fun.
