I have decided to trade in the old BMW K100RSA a for a new FJR. I have a dilema:

Brand new 2006 FJR1300AE Grey--dealer has offered me bike with added 3 year y.e.s. (4 years total) for 10500.00 out the door.

Used (2000 miles) 2007 FJR1300A Black Cherry with remaining 4.5 years on y.e.s. and hard case liners for 10500.00.

I like both colors, have ridden both and I didn't mind the AE's clutch right from the start. I have concerns about the durability of the AE's mechanisms over the old stand by--manual clutch.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I am determinded to pick up my bike tomorrow. BMW not running and I am fed up with not having a bike and feeding my truck with high dollar food.

I'd go with the '06... just because it's brand new (even though I am not too crazy about the auto clutch thingy).

Not really any dirt on either. Both great machines.

If you are having bone/arthritic problems go AE If not go A if you can handle the clutch pull. Its strong for "some" people

cough TWN cough

2,000 miles? It's already broke in for ya. The 2007.

All bikes should come with bag liners though...in the U.S. that is.

The 06 should have them too if it is a "new" bike.

I thought that the internal bags or liners were an option. SHould I expect them on teh 06?

I'd go with the 07. It's a year newer. You've not mentioned much about your preferences, i.e., color or clutch usage. Which excites your fancy? I like clutches as they seem right on a bike to me. You can always add the heated grip option to the 07A later. I bought a slightly used 06 A & it definetly came with Yamaha supplied bag liners, they were not an extra price option that year or 07.

hard case liners are supposed to be standard equipment in the USA for both model years......don't leave without 'em. On the 2006 there were recalls.......ask if they were done (speedo, something to do with the clutch I think). I own a 2006A and I'd go for the '07 unless I needed the AE shifting....just more to break in the long run IMHO.

Thanks for the feedback. By the way thanks to whomever added the description to my post--learning curve. More opinions?

Where are these bikes at :) I am looking for an 07 black cherry. You know what I would do. 07 with the clutch because I think it's more desirable/marketable.

Preferences? I am concerned about giving up clutch control durign slow speed manuvers, but I had no problem. When up to speed, I was impressed with speed of shifts. I liked both colors. I rode the AE fully expecting to hate it--as most of the reviews/comparisons have pointed out (don't believe everything you read) and I rode the A expecting a heavy clutch and throttle and, quite frankly, a bike that looked purple. Nothing was what I expected--I really liked both color, ride, gizmos....that is why I figured that I would get some input here. The bike will be ridden most every day, small city, so stop and go traffic is not really a concern. I will take some long trips and actually hope to go up to SD this spring. Having an older bike, as nice as it was, has not given me much to compare to, both bikes are great.

10.5 out the door on either of those bikes is a good deal, especially if "out the door" includes tax. I personally would go for the '07 just because I prefer having the clutch, but you really can't go wrong either way. It will be harder to sell an AE later on down the road, though, so you'll want to keep that in mind. Seems most people looking at the FJR want a traditional clutch.

Just a thought, which I was just reminded of by a another thread in this same forum ["Not all cops are bad"], ...out on a solo tour & stopped to take a break ~40 miles from Podunk, Nowhere, you saddle up only to find your battery has gone flat & there's no one around to jump it. If you're riding an A and there's a bit of incline available you've got the old run/coast & bump option. If you're riding an AE scratch that option, ..relax, you may be there a while.
