Great cause !! I might be able to ride this one, tho' Naciemento in the rain would be pretty ugly!! Ligget / Naciemento, North up 1, east across Carmel Valley road would be a great ride !! :D

Remember if you participate, you'll need copies of your valid drivers license, registration and insurance, all up to date as it will be checked by the guard on duty as you'll cross military grounds. If you don't have all three you'll be turned away at the gate.

What a great reason for a ride....wish I was a little bit closer. It reminded me of a similar effort by these guys also on bikes of a different kind. It was started by a local guy here on Long Island a couple of years back and has grown exponentially since.

Maybe we could make a day of it. There's a PGR honor mission in Modesto for a fallen soldier at 1000 hrs. that morning, then we could go on to donate some stuff and, yeah, maybe wind up at DC's Hondarosa for some leisure time Saturday evening. The ride to Camp Roberts from Modesto could be interesting....

Cool! I can meet ya'll at Camp Bobby or along the way..

One last chance for a great cause you FJR guyz and gurlz. I'll be riding a Toys for Tots from Avila to Creston run in the early AM then heading to Kmart for clothes for our troops then up to Camp Bobby. I'll check in the AM before I leave to see if any one else wants to join in... I'm a little dissapointed in the lack of response to this thread. :angry2:

But for the 3 T4T rides I'm doing this year, I'da been there... I have the 1st one tomorrow for the local kids... They expect 500(!!!) bikes! Yikes! No happy-joy-joy riding in that conga line, but it's for the kids so...

I am happy to say that for the first ever event, with little 'promotion', about 100 bikes showed up. And, I gotta say, I'm very proud of the biker community.. there was a freakin' stack of clothes at the check-in line; how did all those items make it in with just saddle bag storage?

Embarassing story on me.. I thought today was the T4T ride SLO to Creston ride today. And the Heros ride at Camp Bobby. So I bought toys and clothes and headed south to Avila. from Creston, ..and was the only biker there.. the real date is mananna, Sunday.

So I headed north for the Camp Bobby 'hero ride' thing. And what a good deal that was.. Every uniformed solider I passed saluted me as I rode by. A very special feeling. I'm just a stupid ass civie bringing some underwear, socks, and t-shirts... and enjoying a beautiful 63F ride.. very, very special.

They are planning to have another event in spring..

I did meet another forum member, on an 06 Fjr, 'Wizard' or Mr Wizard, or something like that. A very nice man who doesn't get to ride nearly enough.. So he and I were the only FJR rep's in a sea of Harleys... All in all, a very good day for a very good cause. Wish you were there.

I was scum. I stayed home and planted a tree. Glad you went and had a good ride. Way to represent.

Toe.. if is anybody is NOT scum, it is you. You broke my virgie bubble on PGR.. and as I said on that post, 'the best 472 miles I've ever ridden' still rings true.. There are so many good causes/rides these days.. which, in a way, is kind of sad.. if things were good, we wouldn't have to be *donating* freakin clothes to the men and woman who are fighting for our freedom OR standing guard at their FUNERALS.. oh **** I had better just say enough is enough before I get really wound up..
BTW - an Abrams M1 tank is very cool from the inside looking out.. :)

I was unable to go, so I mailed my donations. I bought alot of stuff from Walmart,I got the address from Clair, who was in charge, and UPS'd two big boxes of new underwear, tshirts, jammies, and 2 dozen hats from my work. Clair wanted to make the point that the military DOES issue green goods to the wounded soldiers. THESE donations are for morale boosting. When a soldier is wounded, he is shipped directly out, and his belongings follow a bit later. So to have a little bit of "home" like a ball cap, NASCAR shirt, white shirts, pajamas, just makes the hospital stay a little easier. There was quite a bit of response on the PASHNIT website, which is not bike specific. From there, it spread to all the particular bike websites. Ovale brought it here, I think. I think part of the reason for not much response was the short notice, and the fact that December is packed with charity rides. It also starts to get a little cold for some.

The next one (JUNE?) should have a bigger turnout. I was told by Clair that one Harley contingent brought a truckload of stuff following them. The base also offered overnight lodging for some.

Those are our kids over there. Thanks for helping them feel better. :clapping:

This is a copy of the post I made on the "Pashnit" forum and I thought I'd share it here as well.

I left Oroville Saturday, at 5:00 a.m. and headed down I-5 as planned. A wee bit nippy it was! My temperature gauge indicating 33 to 36 degrees until I reached Gustine and the sun had been up for about an hour. Thank goodness for heated gear! It had warmed up considerably by the time I hit the Salinas valley but I thought a good hot cup of coffee was in order.

After stopping for a hot coffee in Prunedale, I headed down Hwy 101 and eventually caught up with a dozen military veterans “Chapter 28” riding in formation. The Vet, riding sweep (I later found out he went by the name, “Dutch”), invited me into the formation and so I rode with them the remaining 30 or so, miles to Camp Roberts. Besides, they were keeping a pretty good pace and made a gas stop right when I need to...Ah…er… empty my tank. These were at great group of riders and veterans who I later enjoyed visiting with at Camp Roberts. Thanks again guys for letting me tag along for a bit, it was an honor!

I also had a chance to meet dcarver, another member from the FJR Forum. A nice guy and we had a good time comparing notes on our new rides.

I had a chance to meet Clair who was instrumental in getting this event coordinated and via e-mail got me to the right place.

This is a very worthy event and I was glad I could take part in it. I felt honored delivering my humble contribution.

I hung around for awhile checking out the various bikes, cars and military rides (Check the Abrams pic) and then headed down to Santa Maria to meet my son for dinner and watch the Christmas parade before turning in.

The next morning I headed north, up Hwy 1, to Monterey then back across the Salinas Valley again to retrace my route back home. The ride up the coast was awesome! Perfect weather with little traffic, beyond Monterey however, the traffic was a nightmare!! I’m glad I don’t have to deal with that every day!

This turned out to be a great weekend get-away and I will jump at the chance to do this again in June if a repeat “Ride for a Hero” goes as planned.

It was nice to meet you Mr. Wizard! Good to kick the tires, make comparisons and help our men and women too. Good to hear you made it back home safe and sound, I was wondering about how you did. Hey - anytime you're heading this way, PM me.. You are welcome at the Hondarosa anytime.

Back to thread, the Guam Bomb is powered by a 302, and has run at 222mph. The guy who owns has been to Bonneville since hector was a pup..

That's quite a catch basin for the fluids! I guess it's so he can collect them and keep pouring 'em back in.
