Ok, here's the list cribbed fron BOF '06 thread here in the forum:

Oil filters
stock Yamaha FJR1300 oil filter (p/n 5JW-13440-00)

* AC Delco PF-2057

* Bosch 3323 (known to work okay)

* Carquest 85356 - reportedly will not seal!

* Castrol 7317

* Deutsch D-370

* FRAM PH7317 (fits OK but 40% more restrictive than the OEM filter!)

* K&N KN-148

* Mobil 1 M1-110 (known to work okay)

* Motorcraft Long Life FL-821

* NAPA Gold 1356 - reportedly will not seal!

* Penske 7317

* Purolator L14610 - (known to work okay, see photo above)

* Pure ONE PL14610 - (see photo above)

* Pure ONE PL14620 - reportedly will not seal!

* STP S-02867

* WIX 51356 - reportedly will not seal!
We can eliminate those that clearly do not work from the above list.

Now, on the following page, I found some more possiblities.

Scroll down to "5"

I quote a bit from the above linked page:

These Oil Filtershave 20 x 1.5mm threads,

14 psi by-pass valve,

anti-drain back valve,

2.3" O.D. gasket

2.5" to 3.5" long.

If you have the room, I recommend the longer filters.

Recommended filters.

All have superior

filtering.

About 2.5 inches long.

* Purolator Pure One PL14612, about $6.

* Mobil M1-108, about $12.

Made by Champion.

* Bosch 3300, about $6.

Made by Champion.

About 3.25 inches long.

* Purolator Pure One PL14610, about $6.

* Mobil 1 M1-110, about $10.

Made by Champion.

* Bosch 3323, about $6.

Made By Champion.

* WalMart SuperTech ST7317,

about $2. Made by Champion.
I bolded the ones not on the BOF list. Anyone here who has comments about their experience with anyof the filters bolded... except the length issue, which is an "in-a-pinch-only" no brainer.

For some reason, I can't resist a discussion on oil filters. I really should figure that one out.

FWIW I've used the OEM, the Purolator PL14610 and the SuperTech7317.

The Purolator is the prettiest by far. I have no proof as to which works best. Lately I've been using the ST7317 because, A- I'm frugal and B- Its right next to the RotellaT Synthetic (5W-40) on the shelf at Walmart. From what I've read, the ST7317 is as good if not better than most 'top brand' filters. I change oil and filter pretty religiously every 3000 miles. I can't find any reason to change my method.

Hey, thanks. I'm going to check out that filter at WM... country of origin (polical comment).... and compare it physically to an OEM.

I checked the 06 Bin-O-Facts -- and all three filters that were bolded are actually already listed, and article regarding oil filters is linked as well.

Clicky

and the oil filter article is linked to the BOF also Clicky

Let me know if im missing something here... or don't understand what you are saying that the BOF needs.

I'll do my best to add it.

Oops. I took the BOF info from my own computer... perhaps dating to before they were listed. Or something. Sorry.
