I was getting ready to order a Powerlet kit for my new 08 and was kind of leaning toward the rearset unit. I like the idea of having it down to the side and out of the way. My concern is, how well do they handle the elements mounted that low by the rear end. I had one mounted on the fairing panel on my 04 with no problems, but that is up higher and didn't catch near as much rain and rocks as one mounted down by the rear wheel might. Can anyone that has run the rear set unit for multiple years tell me if they have had any problems with them?

I've had them mounted in roughly the same location on several different bikes over the years and never even had it get dirty. The cap does an excellent job.

It won't get as dirty as you think, at least not the front of it. My bike has seen all sorts of weather and road conditions, and the powerlet never gets covered in stuff. Probably would be safe it did, but IMO it is a non-issue.

Have the dual powerlet mounted low for 48k on my 04. One of the leads to the wire broke and powerlet replaced it for free when I talked to them. Great product.

Had one on the side of my Ural for heated clothing when I rode the Haul road. Never had a problem and you cannot get more mud on a bike than that.

I did Hurricane IBR 07 and about 70,000 miles with two Powerlets near my left knee and never an issue.
