What are those guys in California thinking (see below)? This is almost technically impossible (putting UNIQUE serial numbers on ALL individual shell cases AND bullets ) and is only designed to eliminate people from using firearms. Manufacturers of ammo will not consider doing this and therefore will no longer sell ammo to California (which is what the anti-gun people out there want). :angry03:

CALIFORNIA

Anti-gun legislation, Senate Bill 357, was re-referred to the Assembly Committee on Appropriations. The amended version of this bill requires that all handgun ammunition carry a unique serial number engraved on both the bullet and the case and be registered to the purchaser. SB 357 bans the manufacture, transfer, and possession of non-serialized handgun ammunition after July 1, 2009, and possession of non-serialized ammunition would be a crime. SB 357 would also require ammunition vendors and manufacturers to register with the Department of Justice. Please contact members of the Committee and ask them to oppose SB 357. For a list of committee members and their contact information, please visit www.assembly.ca.gov/acs <https://www.assembly.ca.gov/acs>. Assembly Bill 352 was re-referred to the Senate Committee on Appropriations. It is expected to be considered by the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, July 11. AB 352 expands the definition of "unsafe handguns" to include semi-automatic pistols that are not designed and equipped with an array of microscopic characters which identify the make, model, and serial number of the pistol by imprinting the characters on each cartridge case when the firearm is discharged. This legislation could essentially ban all semi-automatic pistols commonly used by California gun owners. Assembly Bill 88 is also expected to be heard by the Senate Committee on Appropriations on Monday, July 11. AB 88 would change existing law by placing additional penalties for violations involving "assault weapons" and .50 BMG rifles. Please contact members of the Senate Committee Appropriations and ask them to oppose both AB 352 and AB 88. For a list of committee members and their contact information, please visit www.sen.ca.gov <https://www.sen.ca.gov>.

I bet the criminals are ecstatic over that one. They won't be happy until, like in Great Britain, it will be illegal to defend yourself.

Please tell me this is some kind of joke!
Don't think it's a joke Ant... the guy that sent me this is majorly involved with handguns, NRA, etc. That's just some happy horseshit ain't it?

More info... when I asked my friend if it was "for real"... he responded as follows (and as usual provide more info. than I needed)...

Steve:

Yes it is "for real" a law proposed to the California state legislature. I got the info from the NRA (see "look at the states - California" below).

As you know, some "handguns" like the ThunderFive and Thompson Contender are chambered for shotgun shells. I guess if you own one of these in California (and want to shoot it if this law passes) then you would have to have a unique serial number on each pellet in each shot shell. Do you know how many # 8 shot there are in a shotgun shell (or how small a # 8 shot is)?

For those poor souls (like me) who like to reload, it will sure be hard on them to put a unique serial number on each bullet they cast at home (or order through the mail from Tennessee).

Enjoy your freedom while you can. Shoot safely and shoot often (while you can).

NRA-ILA Grassroots Alert Vol. 12, No. 28 7/15/05

YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED!

CONTACT YOUR LAWMAKERS IN SUPPORT OF S. 397 NOW!

As you know, one of NRA-ILA's top legislative priorities in Congress continues to be passage of S. 397--the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act"--the Senate version of legislation seeking to end reckless, predatory, and potentially bankrupting lawsuits against the gun industry.

Time is drawing short before your legislators adjourn for the "Summer District Work Period" (August 1-September 5), and it is becoming increasingly apparent that a Senate vote on S. 397 is likely to occur before the end of this month, and could happen as soon as next week! Therefore, we cannot over-emphasize the need for you to act now by contacting your Senators in support of S. 397! Once again, this is a critical time and your IMMEDIATE ACTION is needed!

In addition, we can expect the anti-gunners in the Senate to resort to their former tactics of trying to load the legislation with numerous "poison pill" anti-gun amendments, including "assault weapons" bans, .50 caliber bans, and the like. It is therefore imperative that you immediately contact your U.S. Senators and ask them to cosponsor and support this legislation--without any anti-gun amendments--and put a halt to these reckless lawsuits once and for all. Be sure to let them know that you consider any votes in support of anti-gun amendments to this legislation as votes against the bill itself.

We need your help to succeed! Gun owners must continue to take action if we are to pass this vitally-important bill. Please re-double your efforts and pull out all of the stops to encourage your family, friends, and fellow firearm owners to contact their Senators in support of S. 397--with NO "poison pill" anti-gun amendments.

To further assist you in this critically important effort, NRA-ILA has designed a special section of our website (www.NRAILA.org) that contains a host of useful information and resources, including additional background on the bill, a list of current cosponsors, and sample letters to your lawmakers and to the editors of your local papers. Please go to https://www.nraila.org/stoprecklesslawsuits.aspx or visit our site's section titled Help Save America's Firearms Industry to take advantage of this valuable resource.

In addition, you can call your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121, or you can use the "Write Your Representatives" tool at www.NRAILA.org to find contact information.

ALERT US TO AND ATTEND TOWN HALL MEETINGS!

As mentioned in the previous story, Congress' "Summer District Work Period" is scheduled for August 1-September 5. During this time, your Senators and Representative will be back home in their respective states and districts. Many lawmakers use this time to hold town hall meetings, where they can report on what they've been doing in Washington, and take questions from their constituents. These meetings offer a tremendous opportunity for you to personally voice your strong support for S. 1082 and H.R. 1288--the Senate and House versions of the "District of Columbia Personal Protection Act." Please contact your lawmakers' district offices and ask when they plan to hold their town hall meetings during the break. If you do not know the number for your lawmakers' district offices, you can use the "Write Your Representatives" tool at www.NRAILA.org, or call the NRA-ILA Grassroots Division at (800) 392-8683.

If you get a chance to meet with your lawmakers, be sure to: Urge Your Senators and Your Representative To Cosponsor And Support S. 1082/H.R. 1288.

In addition to attending meetings and speaking out in support of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, please forward the dates, times, and locations of any town hall meetings to your family, friends, and fellow firearm owners, and to the NRA-ILA Grassroots Division, so we may compile this information and share it with the pro-gun community. Please forward this information to the Grassroots Division by calling (800) 392-8683, by faxing to (703) 267-3918, or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].

Despite overwhelming opposition from NRA members, Peoples Rights Organization members, and other law-abiding gun owners in Columbus, the ban on so-called "assault weapons" passed unanimously 6-0 during Monday night's Columbus City Council meeting. This legislation far exceeds the recently expired federal semi-automatic ban, making it the worst of its kind. Safety Committee Chair Mr. Mentel and other council members have taken it upon themselves to dismantle the rights of law-abiding citizens in Columbus by passing this vehemently anti-gun ordinance. Please contact the Mayor's office and urge him to veto this unnecessary legislation. Also, please contact the city council office to let them know you oppose the measure. You can reach the Mayor at (614) 645-7671 and the city council office at (614) 645-7380.

It is hard to believe such a stupid law would even be considered. Just imagine how happy the criminals are going to be knowing that law abiding citizens can no longer arm themselves. And think of the profits to be made in black market ammunition. Our government is about to spawn a new industry. If they could only figure a way to tax it. Instead they will spend billions to curtail it with absolutely no success. Our tax dollars hard at work!

I guess the price of old ammunition has just gone up.

And Keep 'em in the Ten Ring.

I guess the price of old ammunition has just gone up.Look up a F.N 5.7, if you are a LEO, you would be very afaird!
There are many readily accessible firearms capable of defeating body armor (like Grandpa's old Stevens single shot and a $3.00 box of 12 ga slugs.) Though the 5.7 may be capable of defeating armor and hence the vitals, it is still highly unllikely it will become the weapon of choice for bangers. Law enforcement should be more concerned about the increased violent crime as those law abiding citizens fall prey to those who could care less what law they are vilolating. Join progun organizations that will fight for your right to protect yourself, your family, and your home. It is your responsibilty. Vote!

This is almost as dumb as the law they passed in New Jersey. That one says as soon as a "Smart Gun" becomes "avalible", that is all you can buy in the state. Problem is, "available" is defined as at least 1 working example. Oh, and law enforcment is exempt. They won't trust thier lives to a "smart gun" but the NJ politician$ feel it's good enough for everyone else.

There use to be a gun that had a modified trigger safety that works of a magnet and a ring that you wear, if you are not wearing the ring, the safety stays on and you will not be able to fire the gun if you are not wearing the ring.

It works most of the time, but most LEO still didn't trust it enough to be comfortable using it.

There is nothing that is 100% safe proof, and when it comes to LEO's, I think they rather take the chance of someone taking their gun away then to have a gun fail to fire when they need it.

I rather none of it happen but that's just me. ;)

Not just LEO's, but most gun owners feel the same way.

I lived in California for 10 years,,

I am from Virginia,,

I always knew that California is like a box of trail mix,,

you can take out the nuts an fruits,, but you still have a bunch of flakes,,

Does anyone else think it's ironic that this bill is SB 357? The most powerful handgun in the world and can blow your head clean off :cownoy: . Bunch of Safety Nazi's trying to protect us from ourselves but not from the criminal element.

And I don't live in Kali.

HEY! Here's an idea, how about enforcing the laws that are already in place instead of adding new laws? The LEO's have enough trouble with the existing laws and they want to add to it!?

Support your local sheriff :D , rant off.

Grnarrowe

It is ironic that the bill is 357, however, Clints 'most powerful handgun in the world' was a .44 magnum. In reality, even the .44 mag is a long way from the most powerful handgun in the world.
