Guy on a H**** 1000RR next to me today at a set of lights - to my left.

A quick look at the bike has me wondering what the hell that shiny blue rod is down the side of the bike.

A second longer look and I realize - the guy is in shorts (tsk, tsk) and the "rod" is a blue titanium prosthetic leg from above the knee! -- and a running shoe resting on the right peg.

My first thought was "how cool that the guy didn't let this stop him from riding"

My second though was (as he wheelied off and disappeared into the distance) -- "I wonder how he lost the leg in the first place"

Still -- kudo's to him.

Just my thought for the day.

I once saw a guy with ine leg wheeling back and forth in front of The Rock Store on a Honda XL.

Makes you look twice.

I once saw a guy with one arm hang wallpaper in an hour and a half. Now THAT'S good! :p

Seriously, My riding buddy is a below knee amputee and rides his SV650 like there's two good ones down there. We rigged a rear handbrake on his KTM dirtbike, and this kid does brakeslides into turns like nobody's business.

BTW........I was a prosthetic technician for 25 years. Seen it all.

I just Ayres long distant riding book. He mentions Dave Barr. He had both legs blown off in Angola. He is well respected. 90 to 94 he road a HD over more then 6 continents and more than 83,000 miles. He is also a regular Sky Diver. TJ :clapping:

When I worked at a shop that built disabled driver vans, we set up a B/SSA Camaro for a guy. Pretty cool when we were done.

last year my riding buddy and i met three riders in missoula, mt and rode togather for the next four days. the guy on the vulcan lost his leg in a bike wreck 20 something years earlier. he told me that when he started riding again, friends questioned the wisdom of that decision. he asked them when they had last seen him smiling. that was enough to back them off.

it's not anywhere close to being in that league, but i've been up all night because of injuries from my wreck 10 days ago. i told one of my staff about a bad dream that i had a couple of nights after the wreck where i had a catastrophic tps failure in the mountain twisties. i had recently learned (on this forum) and performed the tps diagnostic. i told her that the dream made me angry because i really wasn't expecting to have to deal with any phycological issues.

she asked if i would still want to ride once i'm able? i hadn't yet concidered that not riding was even an option . i just said yes.

if i chose not to ride anymore i doubt i'd let it get to me anymore than the knowing i'm "at risk" that we all ride with.

when i rode with rod i knew i was riding with a guy who just loved it. it reminded me of a biker chicks jacket that read " if i have to explain it, you wouldn't understand it" only rod wasn't a poser.

i can't wait to wait to get back in the saddle.

derek
