I live next to Virgina Beach, home of Oceana Naval Air Station -- so lots of ex-figter pilots are around this area, and many are my friends. They all have great stories about stunts like these. These guys are different, to be sure. And while most of my "normal" professional friends think I'm "nuts" for piloting the FJR, these ex-figter pilots "get it". And, have a real look of envy when I'm on her Jay

He may have intended to do this stunt. I imagine this is completely out of standards, just for the sake of a picture. If CAG saw this stunt or video, you would be able to hear him clear up in the arresting gear station....and the pilot will need to wear Kotex to stem the blood from the chewing he got. This pilot would be lucky to not have something written in his personnel file.

Dunno, what might happen to the pilot. But if he were written up or whatever, it wouldn't be CAG doing it and it would likely be in French.

That is a French aircraft.

Film is a bit blurry but pretty sure it is a Mirage 2000 or some variation of the same. I don't think the American Navy is flying a true delta wing with forward canards.

I'm hardly an expert, but it is kind of a hobby of mine. I really like military aircraft and have lived almost all my 51 years in the flight pattern of a former SAC base now a JRB with Air Guard and Navy aircraft attached to the factory that builds the F16 and now working on the F22.

Also, the angle the aircraft takes at the bottom of the loop strongly suggests that the pilot fully intended to churn the water as he did. That angle of attack is a feature of that air frame. The fact that it was done right next to the carrier like that would make it kind of difficult to not get caught. That and the fact that the fly by seems pretty convienent for the camera suggests that it might have been part of a demo or show.

Not taking anything away from the post or the film clip. Very cool.
