After having been in negotiations with Richard "TripleTango" for a few days I sent him the money this morning and signed the contract with the bike haulers.

I am officially now the proud owner of a 2006 AE. This bike had all recalls done, had the throttle upgraded to GY2 (plus one spring rotation), comes with three windshields, a Corbin seat, power commander, comm system and even a Garmin GPS. :yahoo:

Now the really hard part is going to be waiting for the bike. I chose to go with Haulbikes, since they do not use pallets, but rather have designated bike trailers that have the bikes in sideways, with wheel chokes for the front wheels and ties for the back wheels. I am very much hoping that this reduces the risk of damage. They claim to be the main shippers for HD and Buell dealers.

It will take them 7-10 days until they pick the bike up. Unfortunately they always ship through Wisconsin where their headquarters are, so the bike will be en route for another 20 days from Texas to Oregon... :dribble:

A big THANK YOU goes out to all you fellow forum members that helped make up my mind! You know who you are!

I see you are falling in love and you haven't even seen your new gal in person yet. Wait til you do! Ride the hell out of her!

Congrats on the new bike! I just picked up my new '08 about a month ago. Weather stinks in PDX right now. Can't wait for spring!

Enjoy the new (to you) bike! Don't worry about the 20 days, it'll be over before you know it.

I looked at bikes aka FJR's for a long time, both new and used, before I bought my new '09A from my local dealer. There were some great prices on new leftover older AE's and I almost went that way, but I really did want to do business with the small local guy if he could match prices, which he did.

Hope to see you on the road someday, ride safe and enjoy that bike!

We're like bike brothers, except mine doesn't have as many upgrades. You'll love it. I can't wait for warmer weather so I can put some serious miles on mine.

Thanks everybody for all the congrats on the new bike!

Thanks to my test rides I already know I will love this bike more then anything else I ever rode/drove/controlled. At this point it is absolutely my dream bike. And for once I wont have to do much in the farkling arena right away..... which is why my wife said when I showed her the bike on the laptop"...and it has a GPS? And it even comes with three windshields already? oh yeah, go get that one for sure!" She knows how much garage time farkles can mean!!!!" B) :D

Plus I have to admit that Richard (TripleTango) gave me a great deal on the bike - I am one lucky guy.

You shipped it? For the cost of the airline ticket I would have rode it home for you :)
Hi Bugnatr,

I seriously considered flying down and riding her back. I would have taken the southern route, and I think it would have been fine all the way to Northern Cali-Southern Oregon, where with my luck I'd get into a blizzard with lot's of ice on the road.... Now that I've decided to ship the bike I'm sure the weather will be warm enough all the way into next year...

Hi Banks,

Looks like your in the same boat as me, at least to some extent with a new bike and crappy weather (but you did get to ride it already, right???) ... I'm not as brave as Warchild in facing the cold weather this late in the year, and especially not with a new to me bike! I will look for a clear lunch break though to at least get a few miles in once I have her here.

I hope to meet you and the other local FJR owners soon at one of the NW meets.

Congratulations on the new ride it does look sweet. When they pick up the bike does the shipper also pick up the spare parts or do you have to ship another way?

Hi 72Duster340,

Looks to be the same as any other shipper, everything that does not fit in or bolts on needs to be shipped separately. AFAIK, None of the shippers usually ever want you to have anything extra with the bike; it's probably real easy to get separated on a long haul with a bunch of bikes all at once. Just think what your chances where of getting your stuff back if your box falls off at a different customer or dealer in maybe even a different state because it got pushed out of the way when they moved a different M/C off the back. :dribble:

Congrats Chris, nice looking bike. I just got my '07' Wednesday evening, but was lucky enough to drive her 150 miles home. Yep, you'll probably love this one.
