Three questions.

1) Just got an "out the door" quote for an '06 FJR1300AE for $15,500, in California. Sounds competitive to me. What's is sound like to you?

2) Does the YES 48 month extended warranty have to be purchased at the time of purchasing the bike?

3) Can the YES 48 month extended warranty be purchased from an out of state dealer like D&H Cycles in Alabama? I've noted on this site quotes of around $400 from D&H, while the California dealer who quoted the above price for the bike, quoted $800 for the 48 month YES.

1) I dunno! Are you happy? That's what counts.

2) No, you do not have to buy the YES at the time of motorcycle purchase. You must purchase the YES before your 1 year factory warranty expires. You will get a letter from Yamaha warning of the end of the factory warranty.

3) You may purchase the YES from anyone in any state (Unless you are a Florida resident, then you must purchase the warranty from a source in Florida.). D&H are the best!

1) I am not sure. Sounds a little hight to me. Look around the forum a bit more - there have been several other California pricing threads recently.

2) No. The purchase of any Y.E.S. contract must be purchased before the expiration of the standard 1 year warranty. (Though I have heard of people being able to purchase it shortly after that.)

3) Yes. You can purchase the Y.E.S. from any dealer you wish. You can even purchase it online directly from Yamaha, though like your dealer, it will be $$$$. And yes, D&H is known to have the best price for the 4 year Y.E.S..

1.) Too HIGH, but sounds like you already committed, so why worry? Enjoy!

2.) NO

3.) Yes, but get it from the beginning. From D&H. It will probably still be $389 unless Yamaha has a price hike.

Sounds to me like you California guys and gals are getting screwed on price and performance. Is anyone out there making cheaper deals on the California models? Heck, I think I remember hearing about a couple owners paying over retail a couple years ago when I first jumped on board. YIKES!

The MSRP for the AE model is $15,299 therefore the dealer is 201 bucks above the suggested retail price. Not a deal in my book.

Check with D&H in Cullman, AL. Their price will be substantially cheaper

$15,500 Out-The-Door as compared to $15,299 MSRP then add tax (7.5% on CA), license ($250?) and the omnipresent CA document fees because of the hassle of dealing with CA DMV. Not that bad, really.

Do not check with D&H for bike prices. You must have 7500 miles to register a used bike in CA. If not, it is a nightmare, the least of which is that bike's VIN will be highlighted in the DMV computer andyou will never be allowed to register that bike in CA. Its been done and reported on the boards for years...owners so frustrated they had to sell their FJR because they couldn't get it into CA legally.

You could call around for price comaprisons in CA...but if you are satisfied, buy it. If you want to make yourself crazy, there will always be someone who got a better price/deal. Southbay seems to be the best price, but if you like your dealer and want to consider this a reasonable cost to maintain a relationship throughout the warranty period, then price may not be your only point of reference. Still, you could find out it you are paying $500 for the priviledge.

D&H quotes $12,999 for an "AE" model and just shy of 12,000 for an "A". Compute tax, Title and License at the California rate. Compare and then you will know if the Cal dealer is offering you a good deal. I think he is about a grand high.

But, like one said. If your happy with the deal, why ask.

Good luck with your purchase and enjoy the ride!

15.5k OTD with the YES included would be a good deal. 15.5k OTD with the YES and the top case would be a great deal.

You seem to be in the ballpark though.

@ Paste007, as a California owner and one who has heard all the horror stories (knowing one owner, a lawyer) and frustrations of those who have gone the route of ordering then importing bikes from out-of-state, I just felt it was prudent to warn a future CA owner of the problems he might be facing. Of course, that means I may not be as knowledgeable about the problems of bringing an out-of-state bike through CA DMV as, say, someone in FL, ID, MI or AR.

Comparing the deals one can get in the other 47 contingent United States is like comparing apples and oranges, or like comparing the price of a YES with the Florida or Canada price with what the other North Americans can pay.

That being said, follow whatever advice you wish.

Not a problem, just means you have to take the long way back from D&H.
Really long way... 7,500 miles and 6 months!

California buyer's:

If you head east instead of west when you leave D&H you'll have well exceeded the 7500 mile California requirement by the time you get to California! :D

I wasn't aware of the milage requirement for a Cal purchase! Learn something every day... Thanks for the info. :p

Just don't forget your snorkle...

I received quotes from 15k to 17k OTD here in Sunny CA (Its raining right now)

Called Ted at Southbay Motorsports, he gave me an OTD price of 13.4k. I gave him my CC and had him fax me the sales order and PDP.

I guess the only "downside" is I have to take a 2hr drive to San Diego and then ride my dream machine back home. Oh, the agony... the ag-oh-nee! rofl

PS. Tell Ted you were refered by this board, he hears it often! haha

EDIT:

Oops - Didn't realize he was looking for an AE.... This was for a "A" not "AE".
