I was just working on Cromeit's left side heat fix from the FJRowners website. I made the bracket at work this past week but couldn't identify the black plastic panel in the pic...until I started taking things apart of course, then it was obvious. My questions are,

1) Why is it necesary to leave this fairing liner panel out (since I think it looks terrible without it)?

2) How does this not cause the engine to run hotter, since that panel is obviously there to funnel air into the radiator?

3) How does this bracket help, since you're only closing off the ducts in the frame, but there's still plenty of room for the air to go around the frame and come out that duct in the fairing panel?

I'd really like to reinstall that fairing liner for cosmetic reasons, and the cutaway version seems like a waste, since you'll barely see what little is left of it after you hack it up. Can someone enlighten me on these issues?

I cut it down and though I don't think it's noticable, I did note the engine seemed to run hotter. This winter I bought a new one and installed it. I think Cromeit's mod allows too much air to by-pass the radiator.

I have read other posts in the past year or so where the rider left the fairing piece on and in tact with no problems. I looked at installing the Cromeit heat fix last time I had the plastics off but decided not to bother. Now that warmer weather is on it's way I may reconsider. If I do install the fix I will leave the fairing alone.

I also took mine off last year and noticed that the bike was running a little hotter sometimes in traffic. Probably the slower speed does not let enough air into the radiator but at higher speeds it actually runs cooler than without the heat mod.

That being said, I'm puttin' my inner piece back in to see if more air is directed at slow speeds.

I left the fairing piece on the bike and just installed the aluminum piece. The heat to left has been greatly reduced.
